At Least 23% of COVID-19 Deaths are from Nursing Homes & LTC Facilities

Of the 15 states not reporting if the individual resided in a LTC facility include:
Washington
California
Michigan
Ohio
Maryland
Wisconsin
Missouri
So we can assume the rate is even higher...for example:
We know at least 40 additional deaths in Washington...

While extremely sad, we are shutting down our economy, putting millions out of jobs, putting millions of million of people future quality of life in jeopardy, for mainly people that have lived a long fruitful life already

I wasn't even attempting to address that part of it...just that it's clear that if the message is now about stopping deaths, why aren't we applying more stringent rules to LTC facilities? And if money is the issue, take some of that $2T to better protect the LTC facilities and you're attacking 50% of the problem.

Similar in Dallas county. Last I looked 23 of 60 were from long term care.

Agree.
We should have on spot "quick-testing" for all entrants of those facilities. If such exists.

We are permitting no non-essential individuals in our communities. We are temping essential individuals entering/leaving. We are screening residents multiple times daily. Any symptoms are promptly forced to leave for testing. New residents or those returning from hospital are quarantined for 14 days with private sitters at the expense of the community. Our doors are locked, literally.
How much more stringent would you like us to be, exactly?

The ADON at our facility said the same .. "open this shite up" were her words. As she's dealing with nearly 75% positive rate.

Golfer I haven't been in the facility since March 10 and at the time we had "visiting hours". On March 11, they implemented NO VISITORS at all.
Only ones in are employees, xray/lab tech. They were getting screened at the door before entering and still are. Not sure how deliveries are being handled -- and they're getting some extra large deliveries these days. I'm not sure what more they could have done.

I can tell you we’re requiring all deliveries be left outside to be disinfected by facility staff. 95% of our day currently is sanitizing/delivering supplies from families/vendors, screening internal and external personnel, and fielding/arranging phone calls.
ETA: I was told this morning that our suppliers are dealing with people walking off the job in lieu of delivering to places like BR, NOLA.

I'm assuming that is what they're doing. They had everything except thermometers so I was able to find some and bring to them. They put a box outside for me to put them in - I dropped them off and left.

I'll bet that the number will approach half at some point. It is a sad, difficult issue as most people have elderly loved ones. But it is something we need to have an honest conversation about before we commit national suicide.

We have a tote system outside in the front, essentially the same. Also had trouble getting thermometers. Just getting those, masks, etc. in abundance this week really.
shite, even pharmacy personnel have to wait outside for LPNs to meet them for deliveries. I honestly can’t fathom us lifting visitor restrictions until 2021 at this point and our region is still cluster-free as far as I’m informed.

Take steps to protect the elderly. As far as the rest of us, there’s no reason we shouldn’t be able to go about things as usual taking steps we would normally take if we caught a virus. Stay home and chill till it’s over. Wash hands. Etc. that alone keeps this thing from killing hundreds of thousands which is apparently what every panicked bitch seems to think.

Last time I saw my Grandpa was 3/11, his nursing home was closed to visitors 3/12
It was at least 2 weeks before they closed the dining room
It’s been maybe 3 weeks since staff started wearing masks
They just stopped bathing residents Monday
They are taking temps once a day
They are not “quarantining” new residents, there have been 2 across from my Grandpa since this started, both wheelchair bound but are sitting in their doorway
They have had students in, at one point he had 3 or 4 students in his room watching the nurse take his temp
My Grandpa is 100% there & is able to walk using a walker
He did say they have started closing off halls so that helps those that like to wander too much
ETA
They called to notify us of the 1st case on Friday 4/17

Build temp staff quarters in the parking lot w/ fema-like trailers.
Not allow new residents.
Only thing in/out would be supplies and ill patients needing hospitalization.

We haven't had any new admits in like 4 weeks.
And we do have dialysis patients who HAVE to go .. it can't be done in the facility.
