Correct. Most of them oxygenate well but dont ventilate well.
But at some point these people are breathing 30-40 times a minute for days and literally dont have the strength to do it themselves anymore even with bipap. Its the vent and have a coin flip at living or you die right there
You seem really knowledgeable on the subject. I have a close friend that is on ECMO. Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

Does the vaccine work as a preventive measure against Covid?

It is not all unknown
There is a great deal of knowledge on many types coronavirus and there is a great deal known about vaccine technology, mRNA tech, and immunomodulation in general. It’s not all the great unknown.
Vaccine manufacturers will make money and that is ok. They are a business and their business is saving lives and reducing illness. People act like it’s all for some financial ulterior motive. That type of logic could be applied to the entire field of medicine. Big pharma makes money. They also drive all the meaningful research. Some just insist on believing there is more to the vaccine story and to “follow the money” but guess what… there is a great deal of money to be made with a therapeutic useful in fighting a pandemic.
Get vaccinated
It won’t hurt you and could very likely help you or someone close to you.

Room air is 21% oxygen. When people struggle to breathe or to ventilate they level of oxygen in their blood is reduced causing an array of problems, and they are eventually intubated if their oxygen needs aren't met by increased oxygen rich air by nasal cannula or other oxygen delivery devices. A ventilator provides the patient with oxygen rich air to increase their oxygen levels in their blood in order to get the body back to homeostasis. That percentage
of 60% is just how oxygen rich the air being provided is. Typically vent settings start between 40-50%. Now as the patient is oxygenated, gases are checked in arterial blood until the patient teaches an appropriate oxygen saturation in their blood. The idea is to see if they maintain that level of oxygenation as they are weened off of oxygen all the way to extubation and discharge.
Now this is a basic review of vent settings and gas exchange. Obviously they are many other factors that go into a ventilated patient.

Not sure why you people can't understand it's our choice. We understand the risk. Most who don't aren't sheep. There's a reason many in the medical field haven't gotten the vaccine. You do you.

You have no clue what side effects are in store. Also many have died from the vaccine.

By “many in medical field” you mean nurses

This seems to be a cultural phenomenon as well. I've worked with many nurses in California, and if they were honest, I'd say 85-90% of nurses and docs and other ancillary staff have been vaxxed. On the other hand, people on medical staff on the east coast and South seem to be more hesitant I guess.
Now one could even make the argument that African Americans seem to be resistant to being vaccinated for covid, and Asians are not, and white people are mostly split.
West coast has far more Asians and the east coast and south has far more AAs. There really isn't much good info out there about who and why people are resistant.

Due to the severe scarring in the lungs and the interstitial pulmonary edema, Covid patients have a severe V/Q mismatch. Not only do they need supplemental O2 but they need positive end airway pressure to help keep the alveoli from collapsing.
