Literally every MD/DO that I know is fully vaccinated and eagerly awaiting a booster. Only people in the medical profession that I know of that are anti-vax are nurses that never left my hometown.

With you wanting to get into medical school, I'd be very cautious what you say in public. You never know what can be tied back to you, even on an anonymous message board.

On-topic, prayers for your dad and family.

Sorry you are going through this.

You are right that hospital protocols are an issue along with fear of the vaccine.

Motherfricking this.

X 1,000. Since we get 1,000 nonsensical threads on the PT/Qconspiracy board every time a some half wit anti-vaxxer has an incomplete thought.

Im fully vaccinated but actually plan on getting the Novavax rather than Pfizer/Moderna booster simply because trials are showing it may be more effective.

But that may change.

If that were in any way true it would be significant but you don’t have a source do you?

All I know is I don't ever recall annual flu threads of this variety. That has given lie to the "it's just the flu" original denialist talking points. And now, somehow, we've moved on to conspiracy theories about vaccines. It's depressing and sad.

Not only do they need supplemental O2 but they need positive end airway pressure to help keep the alveoli from collapsing.

Every patient gets PEEP because most intubated patients are given drugs that paralyze to aid intubation. Its extremely difficult to intubate a patient with a gag reflex. This likewise paralyzes the respiratory drive.

Also, most patients are given meds to sedate post intubation. So, it isn't just covid patients getting PEEP.

I'm not a respiratory therapist, so as far as V/Q mismatch is concerned, I would say it could definitely be a concern in patients with obstructed airway. I haven't experienced this though. That being said, I've had people with saddle pe not have V/Q mismatch.

Full disclosure: I haven't experienced the Covid nightmare some clinicians claim to experience.

2 people I am very close with just passed away on a vent. I suggest spending as much time as you can with him.. Unfortunately, time isn't on your side. Best of luck and prayers headed your way.

They are the most cognitively resistant group of people that post here regularly. They are the reason shampoo comes with instructions.

And they start a LOT of threads.

So you’re saying there is validity to their stance?

Yeah, I'm not antivaxx. I said it many times already, from a public policy stand point people over 60 and people with comorbidities should get the vaccine. That's about as shotgun approach as I would get. Others evaluate your own personal risk.

What is extremely baffling to me is there is no online COVID vaccine versus no vaccine risk calculator from the CDC, NIH or FDA.
