Women who feel unsafe in Sydney can now use a codeword to protect themselves

quote:

WOMEN who fear they might fall victim to sexual assaults and unwanted propositions have been given a new weapon to defend themselves while on a night out. From this weekend, women feeling uncomfortable on their date just have to ask staff for “Angela” at almost any bar pub, bar, hotel or nightclub Sydney and the trained professionals will leap into action. Staff across the city have been trained to either lead the person who asked for help discreetly out of the premises so they can escape or take the complainant to a safe space within the venue — such as a kitchen or staffroom. Bar staff have also been trained to ensure the person who complained has a safe option to get home, by either calling a loved one, ordering a cab or calling police if the situation becomes too heated.

quote:

“We’d seen that a few individual pubs around the country had done similar messages at the bar saying that if people’s dates weren’t going well the bar staff would help and call them a cab,” she said in a statement. “We wanted to do this in a more organised way.” She added the popularity of dating apps like Tinder meant more people might find themselves in difficult situations, adding that “feedback suggests having the scheme in place makes people feel safer”.

OK, that's nice for the ladies but what about the guys that have an ugly porker they need to get clear of?

So how many men are going to volunteer to pay the bill knowing there's a chance she leaves right after dinner?

Does it address what happens when the guy refuses to pay for her part of the bill?

This seems pointless. It's being announced in a PSA, so how is it any better or more discrete than, "Hey, this guy I'm with is creeping me out. Can you get me out of here?"

They have these set up to help men, too....so it's not just women.

If a guy is struggling and needs help sealing the deal, he goes to the bar and asks for "Coach" to get some advice from a pick up artist

If a guy is sealing the deal, but is worried about performance anxiety, he goes to the bar and asks for "Woody", and the bartender will make your next drink half peptides.

What if your name is Angela, and you just want to introduce yourself to the bartender?

I think his might have the unintended consequence of women being immediately beaten as soon as they ask for Angela.

Staff will also be stocking peanut butter and People magazines to buy time for an escape. Ask for ‘Beluga’.

I like how we put sexual assault and “unwanted situations” aka bad dates in equitable standing.

This is the shite that the “regret means rape” culture builds upon.

Yeah, a person just randomly saying "Angela" or "Ask for Angela" in the middle of a conversation won't raise any flags at all. Very subtle.

ETA: And wow, they just might be going too far with this
quote:

if people’s dates weren’t going well the bar staff would help and call them a cab
