How about when you’re trying to find a location you’ve never been to before and you turn down the radio to better focus?? I would always give me dad shite for that as a kid and then I did it! Mind blown

I'm getting one of those lockboxes to put over my thermostat. I ain't having that shite.

My father did this to us when we were kids. I got home one day to find my little brother in the hall with a blow dryer heating up the lock box so the AC would come on. He was definitely playing chess and dad was playing checkers.

You should be happy your kids are still at home. One day they won't be and you'll wish you had some extra lights to turn off.

This woman I rented a room from for a few weeks was absolutely fricking evil about leaving lights on. I accidentally left my light on when I went to the bathroom to pee and she took a dollar from my wallet.

There is a lot to unpack from this response. I’m surprised it didn’t take on a life of its own.

My dad never fussed about lights or the thermostat and all that. I don't either, although I do make rounds to make sure nothing is on or running that doesn't need to be.

Eta
Now I will start the witch hunt if one of those little suckers walks out of a room with that room's TV remote.

Every light in my house and outside is LED so the draw on lights is insignificant right. It is things like the water heater, dryer, AC that pull the most power. I don't understand people getting upset over lights anymore.

i dont understand people getting so upset of the electric bill period. it is what it is and you are not changing it that much....what..100-150 on a perfect month you might save.

i mean from what i understand...that is like max 3 hours of work for the welders of the OT. most of them though its only an hour worth of work

is it really worth being mad all the time about the damn lights over an extra hour of work?

I think the same thing when someone goes out of their way for the "cheap" gas, which is usually within 3-4c per gallon lower. Congrats on saving that 60 cents.

We have LEDs throughout and I just don’t think the energy burn from lightbulbs is material.

Now my HVAC is another story. I don’t play games with that. And shutting the fricking doors. Man that fires me up.

Also my kids love leaving the hose or sprinkler on in the backyard and I’ve had some absurd water bills.

I was in a foreign country. Through the program, you could rent a room from someone while you looked to find your own place for a couple of weeks,

The woman I rented from was the most miserly woman you could imagine.

Literally, at one point she was making us dinner. There were 5 of us. She made sure each person got exactly one shrimp, one mushroom, etc.

When we arrived, she gave us a list of 50 rules.

One time, one person didn’t show up for dinner so she refused to feed anyone dinner which she was contractually obligated to give us.

People pretty much left immediately and found the quickest apartment they could than put up with her anymore. Except me. I found my apartment the last day of the contract and when I showed back up, she had my things out on the stoop

There’s a prominent poster here who once unironically said that rich people are rich because they price shop their gasoline.

Btw, hasn’t it been generally proven that leaving your ac on a steady comfortable temp all day (even when you’re out) uses similar if not less energy than adjusting it up when you’re not home and turning it down when you get back.

Running for a few mins every hour or so is less costly that turning it off completely then having it run for an 1-2 hours trying to get it back down after heating up all day long.

No. This is something my wife gets irrationally angry about. This is something I give zero shits about.

How much does it cost to run a lightbulb?

I’d rather them leave the lights on than frick with the thermostat

I installed "Gulf Power Select" in my home and could control the thermostat via internet. I would love to mess with my wife and daughter when I wasn't home. They would get hot or cold and I'd get nasty grams from both of them.

Oh, and I could control the hot water heater as well.

Now all the lights in my house stay off. But, when I go to my folks’ house, he has all the lights in the house on and is out in the shop.
