I'm late 40's and been the same way for 5 or so years. It's not an every day battle, but the smallest, benign things will set off the tear ducts and there I am a crying mess. Mine started soon after my daughter was born, but really ramped up after the deaths of my mom and dad within a couple years of each other.
I don't really worry about my own mortality, but I get super nostalgic about my youth and reconnecting with old friends and family. I've gotten super close to an aunt that my mom had a falling out with several years ago and I hadn't seen in almost 30 years. She's stepped in and been super supportive since Mom died, and helped me in more ways than she knows. Now I'm crying just typing this.

I teared up watching Gran Torino with my 17 year old daughter recently. So, I know how you feel (original poster). I am in my 50s.

Because you're dealing with your own mortality and not meeting childhood expectations in your life.

This. I saw my own mortality after my died died. It sucks but you just have to keep moving forward.

I tell you what it is. Everyone around you is pulling on you, they all want something yet none of them try to put something in.

To a degree I agree with that.

Lost my dad and got a divorce in the same year a few years ago. It may have something to do with suppressed emotions from that time. Hell, i dont know.

I think some of that comes from maybe having too much time to think.

Do not go to the doctor, because you will just end up arguing with them and telling them they are wrong.

I had anxiety issues off and on for a while in my 20s but they really took off once I turned 30.
Talked to my doctor and started taking Lexapro, plus work out and exercise more than ever before (I'm 32 now). Should've done it 5 years sooner. Feel much better/confident now and don't worry about every little thing.
My advice to anyone dealing with depression/anxiety is to take care of it now instead of waiting until later. If you're feeling down emotionally, don't think of yourself as weak or less of a man because I can assure you that it's WAY more common than you think.
Tell your doctor about it and return to happiness

I agree with this, but will say the change in me really wasn't depression or anxiety. I've dealt with both of those in my past. It's more just an existential crisis where you realize you have a finite time left, you've let a lot of good relationships drift away, and there's more to life than chasing money or a career or whatever.
Not saying depression or anxiety can't be an underlying issue for some people, it just wasn't for me. And I was dealing with the loss of my parents when it really ramped up with me, so I was ripe for some depression. BUt maybe the cultivation of a closer relationship with my aunt has staved off the depression. Who knows.

If only people would pick up on this earlier in life.
