Oh, I see Mr. Cut and Run. How convenient of you not to post any of the attacks you directed at other posters in the very same thread! No time right now, but I'll dig them up and post them in a brand-new thread I'll start tonight.

Here I'll give you a head start with that: LINK to OP of that thread.

When you quote my "attack" posts in the thread, just be sure to quote my entire post. Don't cherry pick a random couple of words from a post.

And be sure to quote the post I replied to. Thanks.

See ya, tonight, hypocrite. Be there or be square.

Oh, and you still haven't explained why you never responded to my original posting, where I called you a hypocrite.

Why did you just Cut and Run?

getting a foot rub from a woman is a little different than a big arse statue being built. I'd be pumped about the foot rub, too.

Both gestures are to honor Jesus, but the Armenians do not have the privilege of honoring him in person.

Hypocrites like you who don't have the balls to answer a simple question. Why did you cut and run in the murder thread when I pointed out your blatantly obvious hypocrisy in claiming to have RA'd me?

People like you who talk the talk but can't walk the walk, make me want to puke....

Marsellus Wallace threw a guy off of a building just because the dude gave Marsellus's wife a foot rub. There's a whole documentary about it.

I personally find larger than life statues of people pretty unsettling. Like imagine if you are out for an early morning jog in Japan, you round the corner and you see this

Here ya go Russian. All post by in the very same thread you were acted so butt hurt I was being such a meanie and insulting posters that you RA'd me!

quote:

.

1. Almost every man posting on here (not you, of course) has turned into a Karen. It's a bitch fest.

2. How far out of touch with reality are you??

3. You’re a fricking super liberal.

4. Yep, you really are out of touch with reality, numbnuts.

5. I think.

All evidence to the contrary...

6. Have you been diagnosed as being bi-polar?

7. "I've never worked"

It’s apparent….

And that last one, #7, you went out of your way to totally take out of context by not positing the whole post I made. The exact same thing you demanded I do when I post all your meanie insults to other posters!

So make my day watching you squirm, bitch, moan, and bob and weave around all your bullshite.

I'm 100% ceritain you do it other threads, but no need for me to find your hypocritical clap trap; your own words right here prove it.

I didn't post that. I used the quote function to quote another poster.

You can't even quote me accurately.

Show me in the bible where it says you can’t have any images of Jesus? Anywhere with those words specifically said or it’s forbidden?

I think it's less about "any images of Jesus" and more about "images of Jesus that go beyond artful expression of his immanence." Art has certainly been part of visual testimony throughout the history of Christianity (and Judaism), so when Old Testament verses speak against creating idols, they aren't speaking against creating art. The bible defines idolism as an issue of the heart rather than simply "don't create objects to worship."

So the question is - does this grandiose statue go beyond artful expression? Is its purpose to inspire spiritual faith or something else? When people interact with this statue, are they worshipping in spirit and faith or by sight? (see John 4:24 and 2 Corinthians 5:7).

Aren't all images of Jesus "artful expressions" since the New Testament doesn't describe what he looked like?

We know his appearance was not extraordinary because Judas had to walk up to him and kiss Jesus so the Jewish temple guards, religious elders, and Roman soldiers would know who to arrest.

Jesus was just another common looking 33 year old Jewish man, right?

How are we defining artful expression? What does art do?

For example, does someone like Kenneth Copeland view depictions of the cross as a confirmation of his pride and wealth? If so, is this an artful expression of Jesus, his teachings, his immanence, his grace and humility, and his sacrifice? Is it inspiring faith and spirituality? Or is it doing something else?

I'd rather not judge others even if I can construct an argument for why a massive statue of Jesus might be outside the scope of the Christian faith. Perhaps for many people, the statue will strengthen their walk with Christ in ways I cannot imagine. However, on the surface, such an opulent and radical display seems to do more than just express Jesus in an artful way.

However, a good counterpoint would be that cathedrals are similar in their projection of Christianity. While one is an impressive feat of architecture, the other is a grandiose project in sculpting. We don't have hesitations with praising Christianity's influence on some of the world's most historically important buildings.

So I guess to finalize my point - I'm not sure if a mountain-sized sculpture of Jesus is art. If art is meant to provoke spiritual reflection, then how does this statue of Jesus evoke humility and grace?
