Who cares? Are you really that much happier if you make $3 mil a year verse $140k?

Time, Health, and Freedom is exponentially more important than money.

Ask a billionaire that's on their death bed if they'd give up all their money for 10 more years.

Ask a billionaire with devastating cancer and 50/50 chance to live if they'd give up all their money for a full life.

Ask a billionaire in prison for life if they'd give up all their money for freedom.

I disagree. Since you don't make that, you think that is how it will be, but it's like most desires in life. Once you get it, you find it isn't everything made out to be.

Now $25k verse $3 mil, I'd definitely get $3 mil being better.

This isn't a great example, but when I was 18 I thought turning 21 would be epic. Like I've made it. Can finally drink, but when I hit 21 and could legally drink, I was like is this really what I thought it'd be. I know a different situation, but the concept of really wanting something, then getting it, then realizing it wasn't as grand as I thought it'd be, applies here.

Ok. I can assure you, it's everything it's made out to be. Can I do without much of it? For sure. Once you have financial security and basic needs covered, the rest is gravy. Money isn't a cure all.

I will say that if you're not happy at $140k you probably won't be at much higher incomes either, but if you are happy with a lower income and standard of living, you'll really enjoy the big money.

Absolutely. Grew up in a North Louisiana cotton field, No indoor plumbing until I was about fifteen. A candy bar or a coke was 5 cents. I seldom had a nickel.
My family had no vehicle.
Out of high school, I joined the Navy where I spent seven years. Met my wife, Got my discharge . Went to college on GI Bill and wife working.
Put two boys through college. Retired to East Tennessee at age 58, on ten acres and and about a 2000 sq ft house, with a good view of the Smokey Mountains. All paid for.
We have three grand kids in college. We helped buy each a vehicle.

At age 83, am I wealthy? No! Rich! Yes.

It's not so much happiness as it is decreased stress (assuming you aren't living paycheck to paycheck at the higher amount).

My wife and I were happy on two resident salaries. We are happy on many, many multiples of that now. The difference is now I do not have to think at all about the money we spend.

That is exactly what I told my 90 year old Mother in law, about ten years ago, who was complaining about her situation.

I said Annie, you are living better than Kings lived a hundred years ago.
She tried to argue and I listed many of the comforts that we enjoy/take for granted, that the wealthiest folks on the planet couldn't buy a hundred years ago.

Just came back from a mission trip to Sub-Saharan Africa. The homeless guy living under the bridge is rich compared to those people. We are the only country that has ever existed on the face of the earth with a morbidly obese "poor" population. Those people spend every waking moment of ever day of their lives searching for something to eat to keep them alive one more day. Let that sink in for a minute.

Well, yeah, he might give it all up not to die or be imprisoned for life. This is the real world though. He'd still be on his deathbed and still going to prison. I'm certain he would prefer to have been a billionaire preceding those events than being poor. Those things happen to poor people too, I'm certain they would have preferred not being poor before dying or imprisonment.

What if the billionaire is 90? He'd probably think, "I've had a great run. I sure am glad to know on my deathbed that I set my family up for generations."

Not "rich", but I never sweat whether or not I can pay a bill in any given month. I could also cover many catastrophic home and auto repairs at the same time without it stinging too bad, so I guess I'm comfortable.

I do damn good….

One thing that comes to mind. I know a guy who inherited millions after his parents and grandparents died in a car wreck.

He has a lot of money but I still have my grandparents who raised me and they are healthy in their late 80s.

Even if I had to work at McDonald’s… I’d still be richer they he is.

Honestly I have everything I could dream of. I'm happy, comfortable, and blessed. If that's rich, I guess I'm in the club.
