I agree but there are some decision makers that believe 4 “free” dumb interns can replace one qualified employee.
Or 4 dumb human interns that no longer have internships because AI is doing it for them.
Downshift is shortsighted on this one.

Oldest son is in the current LA State Police training academy and my youngest son is in school to become a CRNA so, yes, I think they'll be ok.

We aren’t going to be able to have kids it doesn’t look like.

I’ll make my money, retire comfortably and die without worrying about it

Older daughter finishing her masters in accounting this spring. She has a job waiting with Deloitte in Birmingham so she will be jumping on that hamster wheel for awhile. I certainly don’t think she plans to do that forever.
People say accounting is doomed with AI but there will always have to be humans in charge. I still think accounting is the best non-STEM degree a person can get.
Younger daughter studying to be a nurse, it is a wide open field, she will always be able to find work.

Saw where Ford Motor Company needs 5,000 auto Mechanics.
Crash Champion is training and guaranteeing $100,000+ salaries for Auto Mechanics.

Yes, my wife and I each own our own businesses. Someone has to run them when we retire

The younger generation better hope they have rich parents to leave them with property.

Read a book and learn English.

If few have jobs, where will the money come from for the products created by AI and robots? An economic downturn would limit its expansion, wouldn't it?

Speaking of AI, maybe you should run your writing through an AI program for clarity and editing before posting...

Most of the women quit when they make manager and they have kids. There is a ton of accounting and audit being sent to India. Tell her to start reading Goingconcern dot com, it has a lot of insider info for the BIg 4 and mid majors.
Her most important job out of the gate is identifying partners that aren't assholes to work for, and clinging to them. There are some good ones, and there are a lot that appear good but will screw her over, and then the usual "I ate dinner at work five days a week, so can you" shitheads. She'll probably end up in Atlanta before long, we sent people from ATL to B'ham on the regular (usually for an energy company whose name I can't recall.)
ETA: If she gets to go to Deloitte University in DFW, there are cameras that cover every, and I mean every area outside the rooms.

Thanks for the advice, I will pass it along.
I hope to hell she doesn't end up in Atlanta.
She spent most of her internship last year at shipping clients in Mobile, after the first week in Atlanta. It apparently went well, I think she has been given to understand that will be her focus once she starts.

Might have missed this but sounds like she’s on the audit side. That shite is soul sucking but can make decent money if she sticks it out.

Yes, oldest is finishing up his first year of a welding program.

Blessed are the tradies, for they shall inherit the remaining work.

I was advisory, but I marveled at how much time the audit teams could waste during the day. I don't know if they struggled with writing findings quickly, or if they just multi-tasked too much, or what. Every firm I've worked for, and with, seems to have this problem on the assurance side.
It's confusing, because I did the same (IT) advisory assessments without ever having to work 12 hour days. I had to create nearly the same documentation, checklists, etc. I suppose I managed up pretty well, and anticipated problems before they actually became problems in most cases.

You always have people saying that there will be new jobs created, but this isn’t a situation of “horse shoe maker can become tire maker”.
There will be, but that doesn't mean the person who lost their job can get the new job. It's just net job creation across the board.
People working in typewriter factories, didn't necessarily get jobs in computer factories.

When we transitioned from horses to automobiles, the same chicken little crowd was screaming "What will the horseshoe blacksmiths do now!" "What about the people that shovel horse shite out of the street?" "What about the saddle makers?"
This is an idiotic take
Even now we have a form of basic income called welfare for people that are too stupid to get a job nowadays.
There are large numbers of people that are unemployable due to technology taking away all of the jobs that don’t require abstract thought, you just don’t see them because they’re on the other side of town
As machines replace more and more people the useless eaters will eventually drag the whole thing down

quote:This is where you are wrong.

This isn’t “job creation” it is job erasure.
The concept of “worker” is being replaced.
quote:Well, the people in the typewriter factory didn’t lose their jobs because the next technology took them and performed the jobs itself.
People working in typewriter factories, didn't necessarily get jobs in computer factories.
Those of you who think that this isn’t going to have massive negative impacts seem to believe that there will be new industries that pop up that workers can enter.
AI isn’t simply a new tech that replaces the old tech.
The idea is to replace workers.
Why wouldn’t AI simply perform in the “new industry” as well?
Previous technological shifts cannot be compared to what people want to use AI for.
The old tech being replaced is the workers themselves.
