Absolutely. The legislature should have no say in what LSU, or any other state college charges for tuition. The federal government needs to keep their hands away as well.

If Lsu doubled tuition, it would force more kids into community colleges and regional schools, which is where it should be.

Legislature controls tops. If you take thier approval out of thier hands LSU will fall over themselves to raise tuition which will put pressure on tops. They need to check and balance each other or tops will go away. Make no doubt. LSU wants to see tops gone long term and put that $ on thier balance sheet. This is phase 1.
I think tops is about the best government program this 3rd world country of a state has.
I personally pay thousands a year to my local public schools for people that place zero value on the education they get on my dime. I gladly support my tax dollars going to kids and families that handle thier business and don't deserve debt. Let it go to people that are doing the right thing for once. Your taxes aren't going down for it.

I will try extend to know the details, but my senior design project was funded by fculture services. We proved that our "green/sustainable" project was impossible to make financially feasible, but their attitude was, we allocated 25k to this so we have to spend it. Spent a year dealing with that group and that is the typical government attitude they had. Yes, we are in a cut back, but we were budgeted x amount, so we have to spend it even if it's not needed so that we can justify needing x+ amount next year. Then when we don't get x amount, we cry we are underfunded.

LSU has cut dozens of programs over the past 10 years. There's very little left to cut. Those overpaid professors aren't the cream of the crop. LSU has lost so many great professors because other schools pay more. There's far more competition for professors than people realize and for most, LSU isn't doing them a service by employing them.

One other thing, the article specifically names Jindal as part of the problem. The half Shelly idea of his has screwed the budget. Most people don't realize the bag of dicks he handed this state with his ineptness. Cut taxes and increase spending leaves us where we are at, broke.

I'm fine with it if it does not affect tops. I don't want taxpayers to be on the hook because LSU decided to increase tuition.
