I guarantee you that in the next 5 years (especially if F. King Alexander is still there) we'll see a legit push to change LSU's mascot

We are more likely to see a legit push to kick F. King Alexander to the curb.

I'm not sure you understand that the history and "ambience" that is being removed is all that differentiates N.O. from any other cookie cutter mid-size US city, except for the general dirtiness, decrepitude and crime.

So the only thing (besides crime and dirt) that separates New Orleans from Columbus Ohio are four statues, got it.

I may not be onto the joke....

Today Columbus is a larger and far superior city to New Orleans for a lot of reasons.

Those monuments are a fixture of historical context much greater than just New Orleans and reflect a period when it was a culturally significant city and Columbus wasn't. I don't understand how people in such a historic town like New Orleans would be okay with their removal. You don't have to appreciate the monuments themselves to appreciate the significance of their contribution.

That's one less dick you can attempt to suck. I'm said for your loss.

Guess we all lost something today.

I give no fricks about the stupid monuments.

Most black and white people know that no one's life is significantly affected by their presence or removal, other than those few on each "side" who will cry about it either way. The silent majority of both races are living and thriving in the present.

Changing all the street/city names and shite is too much but I understand why black folks don't like the statues.

To many, the monuments truly do symbolize something that was terrible. Empathize. Move them to a museum. There are things to be outraged about and moving confederate monuments away from the center of a city that has a lot of black history and culture is a non-brainer to me. It shouldn't matter to white folks and it offends black folks so empathize, compromise, and move on.

Its is not my city don't care.
If they put that much attention into taking down statues, you would think they can do the same to solve crime, clean up the Eastern Side of the city, and fix the roads.

No it doesn't. I bet 90% of the blacks in the city didn't know about or care about the statues until some politicians told them they should be offended, and most of those still really don't care other than lip service.

This is like paying an exhorbitant amount of money to remove a light fixture you don't care for in your house when there are holes in your roof and floor, your windows are broken and the house is full of vermin.

Priorities.

So much this.

Idiots saying, "it's only statues, I don't give a shite" completely miss the principle behind the matter.

You have weasely politicians creating faux outrage out of thin air to further their political agenda, all on the tax payers dime.

All while the tax payers drive on crumbling roads, live in crime ridden neighborhoods, and watch their tax rates go up because we're fricking broke.

'd say that most people in Memphis are significantly friendlier, more secure about the realities facing their city, and vastly more down to earth.

As someone who lived in both cities, this wasn't my experience at all. If anything, people in Memphis were far less friendly, and a lot of black people there were openly hostile towards whites.

It was a monument to Cresent City White League and the Battle of Canal St. But hey, go ahead and delude yourself to thinking it was for confederate soldiers.

It's not just about the stupid monuments. It's about the end game. Now there are people talking about changing street names, saying that the LSU mascot has racial beginnings, etc. I've even seen people saying that they should burn down plantation homes.

Where the frick does this bullshite end?

I'm genuinely indifferent. I think the people in the cities should vote on it but I genuinely and generally don't give a frick what people do with monuments. History doesn't change, people do. Accept it.

Nah... let the mayor decide to do whatever he wants in the middle of the night with no accountability whatsoever.
