Honestly, I don't give a shite about what monuments they take down as long as it's not the Jackson Square one. That's an iconic symbol of the city.

They could have every honky in the city wearing a placard that says "I'm sorry for being a horrible racist cracker" and it still wouldn't be enough. When you cede even the smallest concession to these types it is like blood in the water. All you do is attract more sharks who will tear everything apart.

What are you concerned about them changing next. And living in Baton Rouge, why do you feel you deserve say on the matter?

He was a total piece of shite. But he was also a president with a strong connection to the area.

If I was a native in Louisiana, I'd be less concerned about Jackson, and more interested in trying to get federal recognition for my tribe.

This is America. He can have an opinion on anything he likes.

Typical of someone on the side of removing the monuments to hate freedom of expression.

Voting in Orleans is still a majority white, but not the overall population. Though the white population is also very liberal, and probably supports removal.

I agree, it's all political correctness BS. I'm so sick of a vocal minority dictating policy in this country. Mitch is nothing more than a pandering piece of shite. We'll end up with Malcolm X Circle before this is over with.

He can certainly have an opinion. But if you don't live there, that opinion is irrelevant.

I really don't give a shite. I personally am fine with anyone flying a Confederate flag, or any form of personal expression. Plus, it lets me figure out who's an ignorant a-hole quickly.

I still think it's hilarious that people the are raising the most hell about this, don't live in the city. Why are y'all surprised that in a majority black city, they don't want Confederate monuments? If white people were so concerned about keeping everything the same, y'all shouldn't have fled to Jefferson Parish over the decades

The liberty monument actually had inscriptions supporting white supremacy. I lived there five years, and never knew that it was there. I'm amazed it lasted this long. The other statues, I just don't give a shite.

I just find it funny that people that care so much about the Confederacy.

I kinda like the idea of MLK Jr circle. He did a lot of good to create equality, and he did it through nonviolent protests. Plus, it would chap a lot of crackers' asses.

(And I mean cracker as in the most dumbass, ignorant rednecks, not in a general term for white people.)

I had to see the world some more, and see where I fit in. But being born in Louisiana, spending a good portion of my adult life in New Orleans, then leaving to see the West, I realized New Orleans is the only place that feels like home.

Besides, my opinion is that I don't give a shite, but understand why people would want them gone. If I lived their, I wouldn't attend any protest, because I just don't care. My opinion is also that it's funny people without any Nola connection are so pissed off, just because somewhere, the Confederate legacy is disappearing.
