That wasn't necessarily my experience in my 14 years of working in the merchant marine.

We made frequent calls in the Ports of Novorossiysk, Sevastopol and St. Petersburg, and right off the top of my mind I can recall about a half dozen incidents where the local police would show up to our vessel informing us of one of our black sailors laid out in the street or in the hospital.

Perhaps these incidents were just anecdotal, and perhaps the black sailors brought some of it upon themselves by demonstrating a certain amount of lack of cultural sophistication not understanding the tribalistic tendencies of a truly oppressed white population, but I always couldn't help but perceive a certain amount of viciousness towards black folk in Russian ports.

It was even worse in the Balkans.

Do you support her serving 10 plus years of hard time in a Siberian prison over this? Is that right or wrong, IYO?

She is a political prisoner in the sense that they are using her as a political prop. They are literally dragging her around and parading her.

Yes there are 189 people of African descent in Russia. Not counting diplomats other people from African nations that work at the embassies in Moscow.

Too many Asians. Evidently, they dislike Asians.

If we go back forty some years, I was in a German Class and we spent a week in Berlin as guest of the CDU/CSU, great accomodation not that far from the Brandenberg Gate.

One night, one very, very late night we were in a different bar and the 'ladies' of the evening started coming back from their evening out. Most were half black. One of the Germans in our group started asking questions. One comment that emerged was they were children of American soldiers and that was the only profession they could follow because of their skin color. That was just across the wall from the Russia sector where some of them worked.

I can think of one, but she's in prison.
