Abram Petrovich[a] Gannibal, also Hannibal or Ganibal, or Abram Hannibal or Abram Petrov (Russian: ????´? ?????´??? ???????´?; c. 1696 – 14 May 1781[1]), was a Russian military engineer, general-in-chief, and nobleman of Cameroonian origin. Kidnapped as a child by Ottomans, Gannibal was traded to Russia and presented as a gift to Peter the Great, where he was freed, adopted and raised in the Emperor's court household as his godson.

The main reason for this is because the Russians didn't have the capabilities to venture out their borders until after WW2.
Their national history is really quite pathetic compared to all other "Great" nations.
ETA: Plus, they didn't need to participate in the slave trade or slavery of africans like the other Europeans.
THey practiced serfdom until the mid-1800's, well after the slave trade and most slavery was dismantled.
Don't need slaves from other countries when you can just make your own people slaves.

Funny because black Americans didn’t even have civil rights after WW2 yet Black Russians could marry a Russian woman and become a general centuries before?

From what I remember from taking a history elective during undergrad, there was a small percentage of blacks who were identified as Afroabkhazians. They were black, and lived in Abkhazia and they spoke a tiny isolated Caucasian language shared only by their neighbors. Today, Abkhazia is not a part of Russia anymore. De facto, it is independent but from the standpoint of the Republic of Georgia it belongs to the Republic of Georgia and most of the Western nations are allied with the Republic of Georgia.
