I regularly wonder how the U.S. would respond to a "Draft" situation. I feel like the nation might implode if there was ever a war big enough to call for one.

I'm guessing they are having a harder and harder time finding recruits who can meet the physical requirements.
How hard is it to lick windows and eat crayons?

God Bless the men and women who choose the Marines. As if serving your country wasn't hard enough, you choose the branch with outdated equipment, terrible deployment options, and shitty supply infrastructure. But dem uniforms sure look pretty!

I have a good friend who is a Marine and I like the way he puts it.
We were founded in a bar. Our entire philosophy is "Hey, see that guy over there? Let's get drunk and then kill him."

Exactly. The only place currently worth be active at is our southern border. That isn't part of the Marines duty at this time and hopefully it never will be.

Well, a few lucky souls end up in Rota.

What kind of tiny-brained moron listens to, and believes Alex Jones?
I got my answer.

Marines make since in a pre-National Military Establishment context.
The Army (War) and Navy Secretaries used to be co-equal cabinet level secretaries. So in a sense, America had two co-equal and independent militaries who almost never coordinated their activities.
So, it makes sense that the Navy would need their own infantry force that it sorta similar to the Army but then again, sorta not similar.
Once all these military department secretary came under the control of a centralized Secretary of Defense, the redundancies in the military didn’t make a whole lotta sense to bean counters.
Ergo, the Truman and Eisenhower administrations’ efforts to fold the Marines into the Army.

What does this have to do with Alex Jones you worthless fricking Commie?
I guess the sudden friendliness and kowtowing to the literal concentration camp having, baby murdering, freedom killing CCP is pure coincidence, huh?

No, the Marines are not struggling to meet officer or enlisted annual recruiting goals, even with the challenges of COVID. Quite the opposite. Quality is very high. Demand is very strong, which gives way to even more selectivity. Great time to be in our Corps.

Might it be that the tattoo said something like "Molon Labe" and the current administration is against such free thinkers?

No. Fewer Marines, more crayons.

The Marine Corps had the highest ASVAB requirement and most challenging physical requirement of the branches, not sure if that's still true today. Btw, USMC 1992-1996. OOH RAH!!

Lefty, you are correct.
The Marine Corps has had three significant recruiting inflection points. First was migration to the All Volunteer Force in 1973. All services were ill-prepared for this transition, especially the Corps. Secretary McNamara’s project 100K made it worse. Commandant Wilson (from Biloxi) and Barrow (St. Francisville) made significant changes and saved our Corps.
The second was post cold-war recognition that a single service member could be thrust into a circumstance that went from tactical to strategic implication in seconds. Commandant Krulak called it the “strategic corporal” who had a deeper character and sense of operational setting. This is the period you (Lefty) were referring to and did indeed feature increases in recruit quality.
The third inflection point is now, one of AI, machine learning, adaptive computing, robotics, and of course space and cyber ops, among other characteristics of information warfare.
