Same here for my daughter. She just started asking to go in the past few months because she said a bunch of her friends went every weekend. So we have started letting her go and when I dropped her off the first time the memories of that place from 25-30 years ago came flooding back for me.
That's awesome.
My daughter actually learned to skate at her after-school facility b/c the girl who runs it is a huge skater. So she's been skating since she was 5. She'll be 10 in June. We bought her own skates for Xmas two years ago.
Aside from a couple of cosmetic changes inside, our rink hasn't changed. It's like stepping back into a time warp and I'm 12 again and it's 1993.

Adventure Skate before it became Six Flags over Jesus TYFYS.
Was there on Friday nights and for bday parties all the time in the early 2000s. Haven’t noticed a skating rink on the northshore since though

Skate Country in Elmwood and Phil's Big 8 were the shite. Remember the rubber coating and wooden floors?

Let's meet up at Roller City on Florida.
It's actually a furniture store now but last time I was in there, the disco ball is still hanging up there.

No. The small town I live near has a skating ring that's been busy 5-6 days a week ever since I moved to the area 35 years ago.
My kids and all the kids I know learned how to skate there, played hockey, had birthday parties there. I have adult friends that were in hockey leagues for years there.
Yeah, the place smells like sweat and old pizza, but everybody has a good time. Not going anywhere, part of the small town allure.

In metairie, we grew up going to the one somewhere on Airline or one on Jefferson & Causeway. I loved what we called 'cannonball' races, where one kid would squat and the other would push. We won a lot because my little sister was a light and skilled "cannonball".
The rink would organize the races, now the lawyers likely ruined that.
Metairie was a great place to grow up, they had a few "Pits" hang around the rinks, trying to start fights, the cops would send them back to the drag strip where they belonged.

Shreveport has Hot Wheels of Wonder.
Bossier City has Hot Wheels Skating Palace.

"Pits" lol. That's a reference I haven't heard in a long time. "Ra-loods " was another one. In case anyone doesn't know, it's a Metairie/Kenner reference to teenage dudes wearing tight jeans with white tennis shoes, Motley Crue or Ozzy shirts, sporting a mullet, and cheesy 14 or 15 year old puberty stache.

Baw I miss skate country. I think it’s still open but it can’t be the same.

I remember hanging out at the skating rink on Hwy 19 between Baker and Zachary back in the late 70’s as a kid. I think it was called Roseland. It’s a storage facility now.
Baker had a movie theater back then too - just a minute or two down Hwy 19 - called Baker Cinema. Saw Grease in that theater resulting in my first crush at about age 7 (Olivia Newton John)
Have a lot of great memories of living in Baker from 1975 to 1980 before my parents moved us out west.
It’s too bad Baker evolved into a total craphole.

Anyone remember Tibby's on the Northside in Lafayette. The really old one on St. Leo I think?

Mine did as a kid(late 80's/early 90's) but it's a mural now.

Yes, went there a couple of times in the late 70/s. Learned how to skate at what is now the St Bernard school gym in Breaux Bridge. My great uncle ran the rink for a few years before they opened the school back up and reclaimed the gym.

Egyptian Lover is the absolute best roller skating theme ever. The two will never separate in my mind

Leo’s was my domain when I was a kid. Every Sunday for 4 hours after church. I still love skating. I would race the boys because the girls were too slow. Mom and I did the scooter races and usually won. In-lines came along and my quads couldn’t keep up.
I remember when Mr. Leo (Perry”s dad) died falling off of a ladder during one of the hurricanes (Andrew?)
Then they cleaned up the ice skating rink and had the local teams practice there. My younger sister learned to ice skate at Leo’s. Good times.
