the idea that marriage is this great institution that everyone needs to take part in to be happy or successful I just don’t buy.

Nor should you. I think you can attribute a lot of divorces to this very idea that society tries to push.

Marriage isn't some bullshite Disney Princess fantasy. It's hard work and it takes two people that understand that for it to be successful. I think a lot of young folks get married on the premise that it's going to be the lovely romantic thing like you see in the movies and they'll live together as soul mates. When that doesn't end up being the case, these people think they're in a bad marriage. That's not necessarily true...they're just learning what marriage really is.

couldnt agree more. People's lives are what they make of it.

I also agree that life is what you make of it. I'm perfectly happy and content being single. I'm not trying to convince anyone, married or not, that their lives are miserable because I'm not them. If people want to think I'm miserable and sad for being single, that's their problem and not mine. I'm just going to go on about my life and make the best of it.

Nothing says meaning and culture like look-at-me Instagram posts asking where to find the best pad thai in Seattle

Sure, enjoy doing mundane things such as fathering/mothering future generations and fostering familial relationships.

I'll be traveling and eating new foods and drinking new drinks, all things which can not be experienced by married individuals.

Been married for 7 years. I'm definitely happier than I was when I was single, but with that being said if I ever was no longer married due to divorce/death, I would never get married again

Oh, you're trolling...

Why not just say that first so we can all move along accordingly.

It's not fun when you make it too obvious.

Ah, you’re trolling. I get it now.

We spent 4 months on the road traveling the US in an RV since both our jobs allowed us to work remote. Went all over the country and I stopped in every state to try a locally brewed beer. Kept all the bottle caps. Couldn’t imagine doing it alone, having her with me made the entire trip 10x better. Sorry your life sucks so bad man.

This is pretty good. I didn't think it would hook as many people as it did.

You messed up by doubling-down though

as a newly divorced guy and single, I whole heartily agree with this

I didn't know that, Bama. Sorry to hear but congratulations on ending a marriage that obviously didn't work. No other reason it would've ended in divorce. Hope you are doing well.

Long story that I'd rather keep off the nets. Just didn't work out and we'll have gotten married and divorced in the month of April
