I'm fairly certain that research has shown for a long time that married, religious couples with children are the statistically the happiest demographic

I believe this is correct. For those that don't get divorced of course.

Is this the thread where everyone who bitches about being married all over the rest of board come and pretend that they love their marriage?

Nah, it's a thread for miserable single people to pretend playing the field is more fun than being in a stable long term relationship.

A lot of times, socializing is a means to find a mate. It's not surprising single people socialize more.

Research that follows people over time finds that people who get married typically become more insular than they were when they were single, even if they don’t have kids.

Again seems like a no brainier because the "hunt" for a mate is over. You now have a family, even before having kids.

single people value meaningful work more than married people do. They also score higher on scales measuring personal growth and development, autonomy and self-determination.

Because being married and starting a family isn't an individual act. It's a partnership with your spouse to grow with each other and raise a family. Again, a no brainier.

They had more contact with their parents and spent more time with their friends.

Anecdotal I know, but we see both sets of parents weekly or every other week and we both see our closest friends multiple times a week. Actually going to Napa this weekend with my best friend and her best friend.

As an old single baw, I don't know if I'm happier than married people but, I'm pretty dang happy with the way my life is right now. Been married and probably won't do it again...I enjoy my freedom too much!

I’m single and not happy. This website and dipping are probably the only two things that brings me happiness.

Well, it is.

If you have plenty of options. People in the rural south don't though so they marry quick.

To come home to my wife, while she's in the kitchen cooking dinner and washing dishes, and a little one running to me with a huge smile on his face screaming "DADDY!!!!!!!" is unbeatable.

Man, I came home with two coeds and had a threesome then played xbox and smoked weed after they left, went to sleep and got 9 straight hours of uninterrupted sleep.

I envy you my man.

"Fun" is entirely subjective on this.

Here’s the thing though, is marriage really a stable long term relationship when the divorce rate is already at 50% and climbing?

Single people in their 20s and 30s THINK they are happier than married people with children.
Talk to some single women over 40. Miserable, bitter, and cuckoo for coco puffs.
Single men over 40 are generally sloppy drunk jackasses who aren't funny like they were in their 20/30s.

True, they have "more friends," ie other shallow, miserable people just like them.

Marriage and kids are tough and certainly amount to baggage, but I'd rather a Samsonite full of rewarding experiences than a small carry-on full of self indulgence.

It's a small worthless shithole compared to miami.

Unless you are just there for the weekend to party.

And yeah, I've been to NOLA about 2 dozen times and had relatives in Metairie for years.

2 pages already? Let me guess, happy single guys and happy married guys are trying to convince each other their choice is better?

A few single guys who were married and now divorced are probably saying marriage sucks and they'll never do it again?

Is that a good synopsis so far?
