I'm 40, single with no desire to get married though I'm not opposed to it either. Never felt any pressure either.

Of course I also live in a big city with a ton of stuff to do and endless hot single women, so there is that too.

Could get married in a few months if I wanted I guess. Last girl I dated, and only for a few months, was looking for that. But again, just do not see any reason to. I may never see any reason to.

Nope, you're miserable. You just don't know it.

Signed, married folks

Man, I came home with two coeds and had a threesome then played xbox and smoked weed after they left, went to sleep and got 9 straight hours of uninterrupted sleep.

Married 18 years and consume XBOX, weed, and uninterrupted sleep daily.

And neither of us is having the threesome with anything other than pornhub, so who are you kidding.

and when you break the divorce rate down, it really is just the same people getting divorced over and over again

It's a small worthless shithole compared to miami.

Unless you are just there for the weekend to party.

And yeah, I've been to NOLA about 2 dozen times and had relatives in Metairie for years.

And yet it and surrounding areas are not rural at all.

Here’s the thing though, is marriage really a stable long term relationship when the divorce rate is already at 50% and climbing?

Considering that number is a load of shite, yea.

"the truth is having someone to spend the rest of your life with and build a family with is the definition of happiness in today's world"

You're painting with some broad strokes there. That may make you happy, but definitely not everyone in "today's world".

I don't think this article is too far off in a lot of this stuff. When I was married, my social life died and my self-identity became what was within the 4 walls that I went home to every afternoon.

After splitting, I developed a ton as a person socially and intrapersonally.

I was happy for the most part while married because that sense of security and continuity created structure in my life.

I'm happy for the most part being single because I no longer have that security and continuity in my life so it doesn't fall into routine.

There are miserable single people. There are miserable married people. To try to universally state that one life is better than the other is just folks trying to justify how they life their life.

Agreed. Maybe prior to 2000 that argument could be made. But with social media and everything people do being a dick measuring contest, people are less likely to be content with getting married at 20 and settling down. There's a lot of other options out there and they sure do look tempting as hell when you're bored with your current existence.

ah, it's a thread for miserable single people to pretend playing the field is more fun than being in a stable long term relationship.

I think the problem is that many people pretend that all marriages are this beautiful thing, glossing over how difficult marriage can be if you get married when you're not ready or end up with someone who isn't fit for marriage.

There was a thread a few days ago with dudes talking about wanting to buy a separate apartment so they could get away from their families.

They'll be here in a minute

The bigger issue is people who think being married magically makes the relationship easy and work-free.

True. Saturday I went to a vegas style pool party with 3 buddies. Then to a casino, then strip club. That was fun. Then Sunday went to beach and pool with 20 something year old I met at the party the day before. Had sex, got her an uber, ordered pizza and rested up for work Monday, by falling asleep watching movie at 8pm.

I'm sure some will call BS, but that is a pretty typical weekend except I was typically just going out with the same girl on sundays for a few months there until deciding to move along from that

How many dating apps do you have on your phone? You're obviously not married with kids. Not that that would stop someone like you...

Yes when they're young, no when they're old.

It seems like being single starts to go from fun to sad at some point during one's 30's.
