Are restaurants paying their employees during this time?

Ordered from a restaurant the other day. The owner was there ringing people up and handling the to go orders. He said he needed to double check my order because the guy in the back was screwing everything up. He then proceeded to tell me that his staff had been gutted and he can't get any of his employees back to work because the unemployment benefits have virtually guaranteed that they'll never show back up until the benefits go away which is another 10 weeks away.

a bunch of the managers at the BWW in lake charles quit because they could make as much money sitting at home.

The ones with enough liquidity and a mindset to try and retain loyal employees will be. Also some of the ones that got PPP loans will be paying theirs, however my clients who own restaurants are finding it hard to get those guys to come back to work for obvious reasons. The ones not being paid by employers are likely getting unemployment and loving it because it’s higher than their original pay, although they’re supposed to be making every attempt to get back to work but not many are reporting those folks right now.

They’re not being reported for refusing to work because it’s a hassle right now on top of making sure the business doesn’t sink, but that will work itself out in short time.

The restaurant my daughter works in required their employees to come and work "volunteer" shifts or else they'd turn them in to the unemployment office. Of course the state pays them more money than the restaurant can. The restaurant didn't get any of the PPP money.

My wife works for a local restaurant chain as an admin. They have given their employees the choice to either stay home without pay and your job is guaranteed when we open back up or quit. She is basically screwed because she cannot file unemployment either way and we are losing close to 3k a month in income.

Most FFCRA payments or other payments are more than employees can receive for a week and still receive their UI check.

So many will make less getting paid from employers than getting UI.

It will catch up to them, it won’t last long and they’ll be looking for a job somewhere else when their previous employer says get fricked.
