I'd only think servers and bartenders are making less depending on where they worked. Because of tips.
Any hourly wage dependent employees are making more on unemployment.
shite even managers making 35-40k a year can be getting 800+ a week to sit at home.

They do, but I didn't have time to take any more electives since I was trying to graduate on time and I already completed a previous degree from another University.

He then proceeded to tell me that his staff had been gutted and he can't get any of his employees back to work because the unemployment benefits have virtually guaranteed that they'll never show back up until the benefits go away which is another 10 weeks away.

Servers I know are helping with take out and basically getting $8-$10/hour. Tips are split throughout the whole staff, but most people don’t tip on take out and they don’t get anything from the services like Uber Eats, etc.

Plus they have guidelines for being able to refuse to go back to work if they’ve come in contact with someone with the virus or are high risk themselves.

I've never filed for unemployment. When you file do you list jobs you had over x amount of time?
We had some flying in from people that quit or moved to other jobs as late as 2018. Of course we falgged them.

It’s shitty people aren’t tipping on take out. They could really use some generosity right now. I didn’t used to tip on take out but these are unusual times to say the least.

I can't really blame the workers, I guess. It's either make far less money than you did before or make far more money than you did before.

Several employers have done this.
Some have also tied taking pay while not working to keeping their job. They can file UI or stay employed, while sitting at home.
It's astounding how many take short term UI over a promise of continued.employment.

It’s the restaurant business. The only thing keeping you from getting another job elsewhere is if you are behind bars.
I have no problem with them sitting at home because the reason they have to sit at home is because of guidelines set by the government that took away their regular employment opportunity in the first place.

Not really. Many people working low skill jobs, especially in the restaurant business, aren't really looking at anything beyond the next paycheck.

I’ll also add that I have little sympathy for the restaurant owners who have benefitted from the tipping loophole for the past 100 years

Tipping out for takeout isn't usually practiced because in most cases your waiting in your car to get food.
I personally tip on pizza delivery.

This is how poor stay poor. Don't care as long as they take responsibility and own it, but frequently this is not the case. When UI runs out they'll be conditioned for another handout.

AS others have said, a lot of these people are making more not working. I read an article about a resteraunt i ate at in NY. The owner was very concerned about her employees so she got a loan to pay them which disqualified them for for the not working pay. They were furious with her.
