Anecdotal but my wife has a '14 Honda CRV that she bought new. Zero problems over the last 10+ years.

That’s awfully high. Get another quote and contact Nissan for help. They paid half of my Altima CVT replacement and I was out of pocket under $2,500.

They did and brought it to a local transmission shop to fix for $5000. They’ll keep it for a lil longer then trade it in.

In my experience, yes. Had my Subaru Outback cvt go out just before 60k.

I wa being lazy and didn't want to type out "Automotive Group". That's what yhe AG stands for in my post.

You're correct that Nissan is a majority owner of jatco. I was wrong about that.

Got an 8 year old infiniti just waiting for the CVT to go.
Got about 90k miles on it. Trade in value reflects the fact it has that type transmission, thus I might as well just keep going with it.
Otherwise, the vehicle is fine.

Ha! You don’t hurt my feelings baw. It’s actually been one of the best company cars I’ve had. Besides, I’m sure I was mistaken for one when I was driving around with my puffy Patagonia vest on. Only thing I’m missing is an “Equality” sticker.

Dang, that sucks.

They have single-handedly destroyed Nissan so take from that what you will.

My wife’s Infiniti crapped out at 70k miles. She doesn’t accelerate quickly and she did routine maintenance at the dealership for all intervals. To be fair this was probably 10 years ago so they might be better now but I’m still skeptical to purchase another one.

If you plan to tow stay away. They are designed for MPG not towing.

What transmission is in a Tundra?

Probably the one geared in 4.10 so they could advertise 12,500 lbs towing but conveniently leave out that you’ll get 11 mpg highway with a 23 gal tank.

I have researched this a good bit and by all accounts the Toyota CVT’s are fine.

I've had a couple of them and had zero issues with them. I drive like an old man though. I suspect if you drive hard, lots of jackrabbit starts and such, that they don't stand up to that kind of driving.

I had a Nissan that I drove when it hit 110k transmission went out. I didn’t know at the time majority of places won’t rebuild one so you get a remanufactured one. 5k installed. Drove it for another 100k till it burnt a valve.

No way in hell would I get another one.
(Gas mileage was fantastic) but in my opinion it’s a ticking time bomb

CVT refers to the (continuously variable) transmission, not the engine. But yes, many CVTs have reliability issues, most natably in Nissans.

95% of CVT issues(including Nissans) are due to failure to maintain e.g. CVT fluid changes at the correct interval.

People are dumb, what can I say?

We have Corollas at work for company vehicles that we treat like shite and have never had a CVT transmission issue. We trade them in every 150k miles, which usually takes just shy of 3 years.
