They should only check to see if you have insurance or shitty, aftermarket headlights.

Smash the headlights with a hammer or taser you for no insurance.

Otherwise, carry on.

Dont ever go to bennys for it
Took my old truck to one on Coursey once
They spent over an hour on it going over a massive checklist
My window motor had shorted out and wouldn't roll down. Failed me

The station in East Feliciana on hwy 19 used to do the emissions testing on every car even thought it's not required in the parish.

They took an extra 10 dollars from everyone that went there for years. They failed me once and said the state police made them test that way. I got them to change the policy in less than 24 hours.

Turns out the SP made them do the emissions test for everybody because it made their paperwork easier. There weren't any Inspection stations close to Zachary (where you need the test) so the folks from Zachary that went there needed the test. I asked the trooper at DPS "you mean to tell me that you are charging every person from East Feliciana 10 extra dollars so you don't have to do more paper work?"

It was pretty funny, everyone involved pretty much tried to BS me about it. I told the guy that owned the inspection station "look the easiest thing for you to do is put a sticker on my car". He said "I'm not putting a sticker on your car". I told him "you are but you just don't know it yet".

Showing up less than 24 hours later to put the sticker on my car was pretty funny. The state police knew they had been taxing the people that used that station for years illegally. I had figured it out and they were scared I was going to make a big deal out of it. They would have had to refund the money and explain why they were breaking the law.

The law is pretty clear on how the stations charge. I called the SP and they kept saying "oh yea, that one is grandfathered in". I said "great, send me the paperwork". The standard response was "that happened before I got here".

It was awesome...

if you came across a guy that actually wanted to do a vehicle inspection, you found the biggest loser that has ever walked the Earth.

Our guy is the best. When he does my inspection sticker, he also checks my fluids and fills them (oil, windshield wiper, brake fluid, antifreeze), changes my wipers and charges me only for the cost of the inspection sticker. He even fills the gas tanks for free so I don't have to get out the car.

In return, when we respond to a wreck and he is the wrecker service on call, my husband and I help him load the car, sweep the glass and debris, etc.

When my BIL totaled his truck, our guy towed the truck, stored it for a month and didn't charge us a penny. We know he loves chocolate cake so Gram made him a chocolate cake as a thank you to him for all he does for us.

The perks of small town life.

Some jack wagon at a new EXXON in BR failed me because of emissions. Stuck a big red sticker on my windshield. The dealership wanted close to $1000 to fix the issue. I scraped the red sticker off and went to the station in my Podunk hometown and got a sticker. Lesson learned.

I thought everyone knew of a place that just gives you the sticker without looking at your vehicle. Every city I've lived in, it wasn't hard to find.

My inspection sticker experience has always gone like this:

Me: "Hey Mr. So-and-so, I need a new inspection sticker."

Mr. So-and-so: "Give me your license & insurance card. You know how to use one of these?" (holding up a razor-blade scraper)

Me: "Yes." (take scraper outside, remove old sticker, return inside shop)

Mr. So-and-so: "Ok, here's your cards, now hold out your finger." (sticks inspection sticker on end of my finger)
"That'll be five dollars and I'll see you next year. Make sure you don't put the sticker on upside down."

Most of them think its a pain in the arse. They make something like $5 per sticker.

My tint is illegal, so I have an expired tag. Gonna enjoy this illegal tint a few more months.

It's a huge gamble though.

The tire place on Burbank out by Gardere is the only one I had an issue with. In college, brought my girlfriend's car there while she was at work. Immediately told me I failed and would get the orange sticker. All because there was not enough tread left on the tires. They were getting there, but still had some life in them. Had multiple people shocked that they failed the car for that. She then proceeds to try and sell me tires! Just don't feel like that is ethical. We took it somewhere else to get tires as I did not feel right giving them money

I didn't think that was even part of the test.

Tire tread is legit to pass an inspection. But I would have had them show me the measurement, especially if they were trying to sell me tires right after that.

I've always found that if you throw them some business other than the inspection sticker they're much cooler about it. I'm sure most of them only do it to draw more people in.
