No oil, standard or synthetic is “equal” to any other. All have their own blends, additives, and detergents. And as is true with most things in life, the saying “you get what you pay for” is especially true when it comes to oils.

Well, that really is all moot since with the advances in additive chemistry and catalytic cracking of petroleum and GTL base stocks, the practical advantages between Group III/III+/IV oils is academic.

I actually performed lubricity tests on a gamut of oils about 15 years ago and have used nothing but Royal Purple since. I got to 50-50 water-oil without significant degradation.

In fact, if you submitted blind samples to a lab they would have a hard time really telling the difference.

Well that's not true.

You could damned near taste the sodium content of valvoline

For normal people driving normal cars, all synthetics are created equal.

If you drive like a dickhead, or routinely drive for 24 hours or more straight, they aren't.

That stuff is kinda overkill for a daily.

Unless a guy can run it for 20k or so.

I run Mobil 1 to 10K generally.

Tests run on engines decades ago have no practical use today.

Engine tolerances are far closer and oils are much thinner. Any engine drained of oil today is going to lock with the quickness.

Mobil One.

Screw Wal-Mart.

Yeah, I wouldn't recommend throwing the ol' "full race" 20w-50 in anything new.

Ran 15w-50 M1 in my 455 but I knew the clearances after the rebuild.

If it has the API seal of approval it passes the minimum standards set by American Petroleum Institute. Some brands may have different additives and you can find people who swear by one brand or the other. I have used them all and can tell you that any oil is better than no oil.

Mustang GT350, GT500, GT supercar all spec 5W-50, I'd probably run 20W-50 in the summer. That whole tolerance nonsense is bullshite, Europeans makes have been specing thicker oils for domestically sold cars years yet only the US versions get 5W-20 or 0W- like they are different engines.

read the fine print

if you read the label, walmarts super blend is a full synthetic "blend" as in its not full synthetic but half full synthetic and half regular oil mix. i was almnost fooled as well, thats why its cheaper.

stick with mobil one full synthetic oil and call it a day

i stand corrected, never seen that shite at my walmart, must be new.

im still hearing that inner voice saying you get what you pay for with oil though.

still, it seems tempting, i will wait and see if anyone reports issues using it like how long it lasts or engine breakdowns.

if i dont hear anything bad about it in a year or two then im all for saving money

I saw a test that a guy did with different synthetic oils, Valvoline was the worst. The best was a tie between Mobil one and the Amazon oil. Basically no difference, other than price.

Correct since recent changes in legality of using the term “Synthetic” it does not carry the weight it once did.
