Not created equal at all but for most there isn't much difference unless in extreme circumstances. I use Delo 400 XSP 5W-40 in my work vehicle and Mobil 1/PP/Castrol Edge/RP 10W-30 in my truck. The XSP is a mixed fleet HDEO and API SN rated, loaded with more zinc and calcium than typical synthetic oils and is a little cheaper. Definitely shows better oil pressure at full temp than xW-30 oils I used before. ST sythetic is perfectly good oil too, I use it in my yard equipment with a dash of moly suplement. If you have a F-150 with the 3V or later engines with cam phasers, definitely do not want to use 5W-20 synthetic or not.

How do you have time to get anything done in life if you put this much thought into your motor oil?

If you have a turbo or supercharger, you should do some research. It is a very different engine and the margin of error is much tighter.

Super Tech full synthetic has been around a long time and it has a solid reputation.

well not at my walmart and i checked this morning and they dont have it on the shelf.

i asked why they dont stock their own brand of full synthetic oil and they say i could order it

apparently its up to somebody at the distribution center to decide what to send to stores only based on recorded sales so the cart and horse. if they dont sell one the computer doesnt add it to the list of stuff to send to that store because they cant request items to stock

sounds like a whole lot of BS to me, all i know is it sucks

Mobil 1 Full synthetic 5W30(Dexos Approved Gen 2) meets or exceeds API SN, SM, SL, SJ, SN PLUS, SN PLUS RESOURCE CONSERVING

5 QTs $30

Supertech Full Synthetic 5W30(Dexos Approved Gen 2)The Super Tech motor oil meets or exceeds the latest North American new vehicle warranty requirements API SN, ILSAC GF-5 and previous API gasoline engine classifications SM, SN and ILSAC GF-4

5 QTS $14.88

Half the cost of Mobil 1, so I'll take the savings.

I think most new vehicles with turbos probably have a very specific recommended oil, and I would not deviate from that. Subaru labels a 5W20 oil produced by Idemitsu and that's what they recommend for their turbocharged engines. It's called a "full synthetic" and I suspect that it really is one (i.e. comes from PAO base stock) since it's sold internationally.

I get a lot done in my life precisely because I take care of my stuff and put thought into routine maintenance. Saves a lot of money too, you should try it some day.

I don't think "resource conserving" is considered a good thing among oil nerds. Surprised there's a Mobil 1 oil that says that. I'd probably pick the SuperTech in that exact comparison, too.

Project Farm on youtube did a test with high end and some lower brand synthetic oils and the Amazon Synthetic held up better than the Mobil synthetic. Now granted this a guy performing experiences in his work shop.

It's no "more" full synthetic than any other non-boutique full synthetic oil on the market, blend of Group III/IV.

I said "suspect," you claim to know... so I have to ask "how?"

You’re pretty pretentious running around with that UTI degree.

I take plenty care of my stuff. Routine oil changes with synthetic recommendations for my vehicles which I do myself. Never put any thought into at all. You telling me you’ve saved a ton of money researching motor oil for hours before using it? Enough money to offset the hours you put into researching it? I don’t buy it.

Agree.

I don't know why anyone woukd deviate from factory spec; engineers spend years determining the correct oils for the engine and they warranty the product. You see idiots do it all the time, but that doesn't mean their half-witted "knowledge" is correct.

That's your problem.

No, I said maintenance in general, and it certainly doesn't take hours with the neccessary information being easily available. Don't try too hard kid.

Tribologists do but the resulting specs are heavily weighted by the accountants, not the experts. Which is why experienced Ford mechanics will tell you to stay away from 5W20. There's a reason Ford only states it meets "adequate" protection standards, it's about CAFE more than long-term engine wear protection.

They have the SDS docs listed on their website, solvent and hydrotreated petroleum products are what they are selling like all large scale suppliers.

Interesting. I guess it wouldn't make sense to put real synthetic oil in a bunch of cars that (from Subaru's perspective) only need to make it to 36,000 miles.

I'd still recommend the Idemitsu shite, though, if you have one of the Subarus that it's recommend for... I'm sure NASIOC says it's garbage, so it must be pretty good.
