If you put away $10 a week you'd have $520 to spend on Christmas presents for your kids.
I'm not going to sacrifice my child's happiness because other parents suck.

Good because I for one am tired of that fat bastard getting all the credit

I see where she's coming from.
I feel sorry for kids who have to grow up poor and wanting because their parents couldn't make good decisions.

My wife grew up poor. Guess what, now we bust our arse to make sure our kids have a better life then we both did as kids. Stop sheltering kids from learning any life lessons for fear of being ridiculed or having their feelings hurt.

Maybe mommy and daddy shouldn't procreate if they can't afford kids.
That’s what you got out of that???...

Are you expecting me to switch to cheaper cigarettes or something? So I have to give up flavor so you can say Santa got your kids nice stuff.

At least she didn’t say happy holidays.

My kids during their Santa belief phase didn’t interact with kids whose parents were appreciably more or less well-off than us.
Valid point.
Send your Kid to private school and no issues

There’s a lot of shitty triggered bull shite out there but this is pretty reasonable and anyone who doesn’t agree is being thick.
They aren’t saying don’t buy your kids nice stuff. They are saying don’t make little kids live in a world where they think magic and the spirit of Christmas values a rich kid more.
Yea I don’t know how you realistically shift that culture in any meaningful way but there’s something to be said for the ideals of the idea.
I certainly wouldn’t attack anyone over it but it’s a nice thought, especially if you know your kids have close friends of varying financial situations

I’m not sure there’s much of a life lesson for a 5 year old that got appreciably less from Santa than a close friend.
Like aren’t we all sheltering them already by helping them believe in Santa/magic of Christmas?

Absolutely there is. It's called APPRECIATE WHAT YOU HAVE and stop comparing yourself to others.

She's being a count about it, but I think there's a real substantive point here if she actually cared to make it instead of soapboxing on Facebook for validation Likes. I'll try to do it justice...
Traditions like that of Santa Claus delivering presents to kids are fundamentally a communal exercise, not an individual one. If Santa delivering toys were some thing one individual family did it would be really weird. The myth around Santa draws its power from the fact that we're all doing it. It wouldn't be the same experience if the kids weren't getting together to talk about what Santa got them that year and what they should put on their wish list.
We even recognize the idea that the gifts from Santa shouldn't be that disparate as adults when we participate in office secret Santa games or blind gift swaps. We put price limits on it so one high rolling show off doesn't ruin the immersion and the fun for everyone else by dropping 5x as much money as everyone else did on a gift.
I'm not gonna get on some high horse and DEMAND that people make the expensive gifts say "From Mom and Dad" This count's crazy for that. But I'll probably keep this in mind when I have kids to get gifts for.

Society is so full of weak idiots. People need to frickin grow up
Posted on 11/19/19 at 9:35 pm to JabarkusRussell
Everything else aside, what kind of weak arse person goes and cries to a social worker over a child's Christmas present?
Those kids are doomed from birth.

Children need to learn that life isn’t fair and it will never be fair.

Maybe poor mom’s Santa should learn how to code.

You can do whatever you want. Just because this is someone’s opinion it doesn’t mean you must change what you do.

There’s always someone on FaceBook that knows how I should live my life.
