But I do not pay income tax on any of that portion. So a “portion” nets to pretty close to take home for me.

I have an own occupation policy. But that’s a fair point for someone who doesn’t.

Until you hit maximum out of pocket. Then you are at 100%. But the cost of insuring that number through UM is a terrible deal.

You do make good points. UM may cover some things for some people.

YMMV. I’m still not buying it.

Landry repeatedly pledged and promised all of us he would sign every insurance reform bill the Legislature sent to his desk. He got our vote. Then when Senate Bill 111 bill came across his desk, what did that cock sucker do? He vetoed that shyt.

He's taken the following "donations" from Trial Lawyers to date:
$700,595 during his campaign.
$386,000 for various committees he raises money for
$29,000 from Gordon McKernan to Louisiana Republican Party immediate after he was voted into office
$45,000 to Cajun PAC II shortly after vetoing' the Bill 111

Landry is a joke and we've all been cucked....So frick him for all this insurance increase bullshyt.

I say this with great clarity - based on experiences with my residence, my vehicles, and business - screw State Farm

What the hell is an “umbrella” policy? Homeowners, automobile, both?

Additional insurance to protect your assets. If your auto policy covers up to 500,000 dollars in damages and medical expenses but you get in a bad wreck injuring several people and you’re found at fault, and the damages/medical expenses exceed 500k, an umbrella policy covers the extra up to that policies limit. So say the wreck cost 800k total, auto policy covers 500k of it. Umbrella would cover the other 300k. If you say had personal net worth of 1 million and no umbrella policy, you’d be on the hook for the 300k and assets could be seized and auctioned off to cover it

USAA refused to issue us an umbrella policy in LA a couple years back due to incidents on our auto policy. Teen daughter grazed a parked car leaving a friend's house and neighbor filed a claim, and I had one speeding ticket in middle of nowhere NM (cruise set on 58 in a 55 zone but trooper me up for 62).

Reminds me to try again now that she's off the policy and the ticket is 3+ years old.

No new umbrellas in MS either.

They messed up my billing in May and I’ve been trying to get continuation of my existing policy since then.

Other than deductibles and copays until you reach your MOOP, yeah, it does.

And medpay is separate from UM, right? Medpay is stupid cheap. UM is not.

Nah. Talk to Boosie on here or any other attorney that does PI.

You can eat through your low med pay quickly and getting your health insurance to pay can be a pain.

I cancelled my umbrella after talking to a friend who is a PI attorney. He said PI are only going to sue 99% for the amounts of the policy limits unless it’s a case with really bad injuries or deaths. He said suing outside the policy limits and getting a judgment in excess is rare. They can’t take you home or retirement accounts. If you have horde of cash they could get that but most people have that stuff protected already in LLC’s etc.

It is ERISA. I get that. But if I’m hurt bad enough that I need UM, I’m pretty damned sure my health insurer will pay as easily as UM. And I’ve got no lifetime cap.

Now there may be an instance where I need custodial care. Health insurance will not cover that. But that’s a low risk.

It’s a dollars to benefit issue for me. UM insures very few dollars at a relatively high cost. And, my attorney is going to take 1/3 of whatever it does insure. That makes it an even poorer deal.

Tim is actually trying to reform things.

trial attorneys are a plague on this state. and reversing course is a lot harder than changing a couple laws, they've created a culture that will take 20 years to root out.
