They’ve always had lots of rotten poles. I wondered at times if their maintenance strategy was to wait until storms come and knock down bad poles so they could get federal money or something

Please tell me they don't actually describe it as "hardened". The entire US' gridis so vulnerable, 100 dedicated men could bring this country to its knees in one afternoon of coordinated work.

The something is wait for a storm then replace the damage poles and add extra fees to their customers to pay for it

This is what the $1.7 billion dollars Entergy received after Hurricane Katrina to harden their ageing infrastructure looks like.

Entergy is the exact dictionary definition of a reactive company instead of proactive. They suck.

You know, you might be on to something. Ordinary type maintenance should be built in to rates. They get extra for storm damage. Why fix it if they can pocket it it and charge extra after a storm?

One of the worst possible companies on the planet but no one can do shite because they’re the only game in town.

O&M is built in to the rates. They just don’t build in enough because they need to keep the rates low because if they didn’t their default rates would go up because they have to operate in a 3rd world economy. Entergy is a shite show but no one’s going to do any better until a lot of things change.

I suppose we should be fortunate that the federal money doesn’t get reduced for depreciated value and a significant portion is held off until they provide proof of the repairs, multiple times

Remember, if you are mad at Entergy, be even more mad at the PSC because they have to approve everything Entergy does.

Getting 100 dedicated men to conspire attacking energy infrastructure without the FBI or other intelligence services knowing is nearly impossible and unlikely.

Plus, very specific grid infrastructure would need to be targeted to "bring this country to its knees."

It should be known that not every pole is owned by Entergy. Long ago when the phone company was erecting poles they made a deal with the power companies. They would allow each other access to each others pole to run their respective utility. The catch was each company that originally put the pole up was to maintain the pole. There have been dozens of times rotten poles in NO have fallen and damaged personal property and the person attempted to sue Entergy, only to be told the pole is the property of the phone company.
Since people are getting rid of home phones, the phone companies have stopped their reliability efforts because installing new poles is costly.

Likely an AT&T pole. Entergy can replace it if someone reports it, and then Entergy can invoice AT&T for it. Under the vines, is probably an AT&T emblem. Pole has phone and cable line, with one phase and neutral lines on top, it appears.

I find it very easy to be mad at ATT and Entergy at the same time.

Worked for GSU and then Entergy for 20 years. Most people would be scared to death if they realized what was holding everything together. There are some circuit breakers out there that were manufactured in the 40’s and 50’s. There have been a fair amount of upgrades made over the years but it’s kinda like throwing a deck chair off the Titanic. Doesn’t make much difference.
