I was about to say being contacted by People Eating Tasty Animals was in very poor taste considering that Mike might be able to beat this.
Then I saw it was the other, lesser, PETA.
Frick 'em. The care and facilities that LSU devotes to their mascots is amazing.

Mike lives a charmed life: he is fed like a king, has a gorgeous habitat and doesn't have to go to the games unless he wants to. He's good.

sorry to hear Mike has cancer. i love the live tiger mascot and hope it continues for a long time. i'm kind of ignorant when it comes to Mike, but is he tame to his handlers? like can they be in his habitat with him?

I'm almost certain that there is never a moment when there isn't a barrier between Mike and people unless he's been transported to the vet school for care requiring sedation.
Though he might be habituated to his environment and his caretakers, he's still a 500 pound apex predator.

PETA sucks - instead of alienating everybody and being super far left, they could actually be productive and work to provide a better home for a currently living cat who is in a shitty place.
