My kid's nicknames are tinky winky and mookie.
only #4 & #5 have semi normal nicknames - the others are Baba, Mia (this is a male child - my biggest kid, almost along the lines of a boy named Sue), Mr Pib (that stands for pain in the butt) aka Konichiwa, and Boojah

Then my kids have nicknames for each other like Wommers and Schmoo - well, those are the nice nicknames

We do call #4 Irwin sometimes, although that is not his name

My younger siblings and I called one of our older siblings ‘Ga’ the a is short like apple

I guess we are weird

My point is I’m a millennial, and I think nicknames are fun

I like the ironic nicknames and the ones given by co-workers, like Motion Light because they only work when somebody walks past them.

Millennial moms have a nickname. It’s either Milf or Karen.

I was able to do that with my students in a Catholic school in the 90s. But MAN, are parents uptight since. Both of my boys and my wife have always insisted that EVERYONE call them by their full given names. I can get away with shortened, but not any derivatives. And, no one else can.

I see it at my current job, too, where ANYONE named James is James, no Jim, no Jimmy, no Big Jim. JAMES. Same with guys named Stephen; no Steve, no Stevie, no SteveO, STEPHEN. The one shortened name that seems to be encouraged is a Brazilian guy named Vinicius and he will answer to Vini.

In the blue collar world, that's a great way to get called anything BUT your birth name.

They really are... and almost always have a story behind them to bring a smile to your face. Even my pets got nicknames.

There’s a little girl in my daughter’s class named Amelia. The teachers starting calling her “mealworm” and I think it’s absolutely amazing.

My step kids found out I had an oil field name and began calling me that along with some other family members.

I didn't mind as a younger man but at my age now, it's sorta stupid.

Is it "Foreskin"? Do you disappear when the work gets hard?

Thanks for your service coaching youth and keeping nicknames going for another generation.

For clarification, is the contested nickname GOAT or Goat? (As in Greatest of All Time or farm animal?) If you have to defend yourself, go with the former and say you were being encouraging, uplifting, or some shite. That might give you some leverage with the perpetually offended types.

Good luck. And tell Goat, Stumpy, and Sleepy that we're all pulling for them.

I had a nickname, sure. That my family called me and I was okay with.

You think you’re being cool by giving people nicknames. Some will like it, some won’t. You’re being a dick.

Nicknames in shops or on worksites are great

Stevie Wonder - always singing even though he sucked at it, and had super thick glasses but still couldn't see shite

Lemmiwinks - Always up the boss' arse

Next Lax - took like 5-6 shite breaks a day to get out of work. He was caught snoring in the stall more than once

Coach - Acted like he was in charge but wasn't in charge at all

Plan B - So annoying to everyone the foreman told him his mom should have aborted him

I worked in a machine shop for about 5 years. Hard work but we made it fun when we could. Been in sales for 15 years now and I do kinda miss it from time to time

Farm animal goat. Has off the charts ADHD and is constantly ramming into other kids on the team because his body is moving at 1,000MPH.

I have a very close group of guys I hunt with - we only go by nicknames. If someone in that group called me by my given name, I'm not even sure I would acknowledge them.
