Damn son, technology is a bitch.
How high do you think that apache is circling? That one guy he hits then he says "oh yea got him" after; guy basically looked him in the face before he disintegrated him.
Might as well be getting attacked from the air by God.

Every time I watch these, I get slightly confused with that crosshair and where the rounds actually hit. I'm assuming that's just the camera?
Yeah FLIR camera is not boresighted IIRC. The gunsight is different.

Man, how much do each of those 30mm rounds cost?
---------------------------------------------------------
$5 or $10 per round, I'd imagine. Every 10 round burst or so, is another $100 spent.
Those Hellfires were designed to defeat tanks. They cost about $100,000 a copy and were zinging them after one guy with a backpack.

That is surprisingly low numbers compared to what I was assuming.

Considering it's been quite some time since the Taliban was outfitted with tanks, is there any chance the helos are outfitted with some slightly less armor piercing rocket? Or is it a one size fits all?
I'd just imagine it would be easy to say "we can take way less than the tank buster hellfire for this go-around"

2:45 and 10:30 were my favorites.
Is that wrong?

I'm sure they're a little ways off. It takes some time from when you hear the gun shoot until you see the impacts. I'll bet they have no idea the Apache's are even there

That gave me a freedom boner.

I'm completely guessing on the cost of 30mm ammo. There are some army aviation guys who post on here who might be able to provide i more accurate figure.
I'd imagine that the 30mm cannon rounds that are used in the A-10's gun are much more expensive.

Deserts are tricky with sound.
Sometimes you can hear things from miles away, other times zip.
When in glamis dunes, the helicopters will attempt to maintain targeting on ATVs while the riders attempt to evade.
Nothing spookier than cresting a dune and finding a helicopter was hiding behind it.
I've tried on a built ltr500, every time you make it too difficult for the chopper, they simply gain altitude.
What's interesting is that this is kind of an understood arrangement between the riders and the military out there.

The whole time I'm watching it, I'm thinking I would just lay down next to a shredded corpse and play dead.

Those are big rounds but the 30mm are still supersonic right? I'm genuinely asking??
So I assume they just hear a zip and impact FOLLWED by the sound of the distant burst.

If cold sand, it'd be fairly obvious on thermal pretty fast.

Yes, they are supersonic. Basically if you hear a 30mm firing, it means he didn't hit you. The one that gets you, you'll never hear it.

I'm sure there's quite the array of ordinance that an Apache can be loaded with. There's got to be some armament options between the 30mm chain gun and a Hellfire missile.
Taliban armor may be long gone, but the Hellfires are still used on hardened targets like bunkers.

Let me preface this by saying I was an AH-64D/E pilot for 6 years. There is alot to the ballistics of the round that could cause that type of dispersion. Secondly any pressure on the thumb force controller while firing causes the weapons processor to anticipate your movement. These are very dumbed down terms to help you understand.

I'm estimating their range to be about 1k from the insurgents. I can't see the range in the High action display because the videonis cut off. At that range they would definitely know there are apaches in the air, but we fly completely blacked out and depending on the moon light it's very hard to pinpoint a location.
