Cool. Let's take down Washington, Lincoln, MLK, and every war memorial. Hell, let's get of museums and art galleries as well. That also doesn't charge history either.

Those are not the same, and you know it.

the standards being sought really limit potential statues to either (1) people who never voiced a political opinion until about...2018 and (2) symbolic/generic statues that aren't of a historical individual (like that "BLM" statue that was just made)

can't wait

American led an armed rebellion against a England at one point as well. Nobody is mad about that one. You honestly believe that every soldier in the confederacy owned slaves and was a racist? The vast majority were poor soldiers, not slave owners. They fought against a tyrannical government that was doing things that they didn’t believe in and the elected officials were not doing their jobs and fighting against them. Much like today.

Why not? Their removal does absolutely nothing to change history either. You're arbitrarily applying your golden standard now.

If you’re implying that I’m a supporter of the far left, then you are mistaken. With the exception of the Confederate statues, I am vehemently opposed to what they stand for. Marxism has no place here.

Can you tell me why you care so much about some statues of a bunch of racist traitors to the US? The fact that people care so much about keeping them up fascinates me. Taking them down doesnt erase anything. It just means we dont idolize those people and the ideals they stood for.

MLK was a well known homophobe. Why should he get a pass? I'm sure Jackie Robinson probably committed sexual assault somewhere along the line so we can smelt his likeness as well. Doesn't change history.

I dont mind a city choosing to take down city statues. Or a county making that decision. Or a state making that decision.

As a federalist libertarian, I should n not get any say in what happens to New Orleans, Seattle, or Portland. Just keep those knuckleheads out of my business in the north georgia mountains.

Any removal should be done through legal means. But if the mayors support antifa, then the citizens get what they vote for. And the rest of the country can learn the lesson.

They are removing statues of Lincoln and Jesus while leaving up statues of their communist hero Vladimir Lenin - killer of 100 million and oppressor of any non communist.

I support the peaceful protesters. One of the great freedoms of our country is the ability to protest peacefully. There are sone police who abuse power and I gave no problem with people wanting changes to that system.

Don’t have an issue with the statues coming down as long as they are moved somewhere safe where they can still be displayed (museums)

Why should we condemn Confederates but glorify slave owners? Why should we also glorify the works of slave owners?

I wrote specifically why I don’t oppose the removal of Confederate statues. Either you didn’t read it, or you’re just trying to start an argument.

But I doubt England has statues of the US revolutionaries. Also like it or not, the civil war was largely about slavery, and even more specifically slavery being legal in the newly formed states that everyone knew were coming. Yes it’s true the run of the mill soldier didn’t own slaves or were fighting for slavery... but the statues are not of the common soldier. The statues are of the leaders who did directly benefit from slavery remaining in place.

No one does/did. It's hysterical across the board.

No one gave two fricks about Lee Circle - white or black - until they got bored and wanted something to do. Now you have folks who act like their life can't continue with (liberals) or without (conservatives) a statue.
