Any general observations to share, or is it just "people are people"? Any relevant cultural aspects that should be kept in mind in business dealings?

The people that think America is racist would have a horrible time in Russia

Their bone structure and rough edge gives them away immediately.

I like to watch them on Periscope. Crazy MF'ers. They party way harder than we do. Search around St. Petersburg.

I used to work with a Russian guy. One of the nicest people I've ever known. He had a degree in mechanical engineering from Russia but it wasn't accredited here so he couldn't get a job as an engineer. He worked for us as a machinist and what a craftsman he was! When I needed something from him I didn't need to give him dimensions or anything. I would just tell him what I needed and he would produce a machined part that was perfect. It usually included useful features that I didn't even think about.
Side story. His name was Robert but he looked like Boris Badenov so his nickname was Boris. He came up to me one day and asked me why everybody called him Boris. It was very difficult to explain to him about Rocky & Bullwinkle.

Russians are like a more somber, depressed version of Floridians. Their lack of worthwhile identity and pride results in general soullessness and the occasional spectacular crime.

If there's one thing I know, it's never to mess with mother nature, mother in-laws and, mother freaking Ukrainians.

1) Russians are very suspicious of foreigners until they get to know you. Then they will do anything they can for you.
2) Never get into a vodka drinking contest with a Russian. You will lose. This includes Russian women.
3) Russians have a persecution complex. They believe every bad thing that has ever happened to their country has been caused by foreigners. Nothing is their own country's fault.
4) Russians think their country is the best country in the world and are very proud of it. Almost all Russians want to leave Russia.
5) There are two Russias when it comes to their people: Moscow and everywhere else in Russia.
6) As children Russians are taught it's the wily, deceitful person who is to be admired. That's the consistent theme in their version of Mother Goose children's stories. When dealing with Russians on a business arrangement, never forget this principle.
ETA:
7) Russians have an immeasurable ability to endure hardship. That includes everything from personal comfort, living conditions and the weather.

One of my best friends works for a company that does a lot of business in Russia. He would spend several weeks at a time working there. He told me that if you want to get something done, you better do it in the morning. They drink so much vodka at lunch, they are worthless in the afternoon.

They do not easily trust you, but very loyal once they do. Overall great people that (if they lived there very long) are hard working and independent. Love to have a good time once they trust you.

Flying to Singapore via Moscow is a PITA. Always get drunk and rowdy and when the flight crew tells them to sit the frick down, they get pissed off.
A few times our flight deboarding has been delayed b/c the SG po-po came to arrest them upon arrival

Great advice. The two I became close with were from Moscow and had lived there for over 40 years. Very interesting people.
