What’s the gain? Traditional locks seem to work fine
The gain is not having to use a key, to be able to lock and unlock your doors from anywhere in the world, to check that they're locked from your bed, etc.

Do you still use a key to get into your vehicle?

This is what the locksmith that installed my locks said so I did not opt for it. We have the battery type on the most often used door. We carry our car keyfobs with house keys anyway

I chuckle thinking about groups of 16 y/o illiterate Atlanta home invaders sitting out front of my house with a laptop hacking my front door lock

Eufy lock

I have this one. I like the fingerprint option. Faster than typing codes. I previously had one that connected to WiFi via August and would lose connection. This one is straight WiFi, no bridges.

Neighbor feeds the hamster while we're on vacation, she doesn't need a key. I can make sure it is locked when we're not there. I don't have to give the damn kids keys. Mostly it's about not bothering with keys I guess.

The guy who can unlock any dumb lock at will said you should be concerned about people unlocking your door via wifi?

lol he can get in any time he wants but he values his contracts with the banks so I don't think he is breaking into my house. He has seen my belongings

I live in an area with more nerds than thugs so maybe that was why he said it.

No. Came standard with the car. Previous car was still with key, didn’t mind it.

I didn't mean the locksmith would break in, I just mean he knows how easy it is to defeat any standard lock. It's far easier to do it with cheap lockpicking tools than it is to hack someone's wifi and then hack their smart lock, and to do it without the owner being alerted immediately.

Yet it's still at least 100x more likely that a thug will break into your house than a nerd. If a nerd hacks your wifi he would keep that access on the downlow and just siphon your accounts.

Do you find keyless entry on a vehicle to be even mildly convenient?

All that trouble to hack something when tossing a brick through a window accomplishes the same thing.

What's the difference in having to have a key for everything?

Oh and usually you would configure the smart lock to open for you automatically so you don't need to pull out your phone. Some can be unlocked as soon as you pull up and your phone's bluetooth connects to it, others you can geofence so it unlocks when you get close to your house. Or you can get a fingerprint one, whatever.

ohhh I did not know that. I do like that feature on my car. Unlocks when I get close with my fob in my purse.

have a zwave schlage lock that is integrated into my smart things setup

This right here, except zwave to my alarm panel. NEVER wifi or Bluetooth. Since most devices only support WPA2, cracking is pretty easy. Bluetooth, too easy to hijack even from a good distance away.

I have one (well two) on our back patio doors. They are set to lock only, and cannot be unlocked remotely. You can unlock they if you have the physical key or the code.

They automatically lock every night at 9 pm in case I forget to lock up.

We have a Schlage Wi-Fi one. Works great. Batteries last about 6 months. Have code for the maid that only works on Wednesdays. I don’t even know where my house keys are. Between that and the garage door on Wi-Fi , I never need it.
