If I can drive it comfortably in 8 hours or so, I'm driving.

When you account for the time traveling to the airport, the extra hour (or 2) before your flight departs, the boarding/connecting/delays, then getting checked baggage etc, you're most often going to be in the same ballpark or more, timewise, as driving .

You’re just going to have to help me with the math here….

30 min drive to the airport
Get to airport an hour before flight assuming TSA precheck
1.5 hour flight
Carry on - no waiting for luggage
Walk and wait 15 min for an Uber (total time 30 mins)
Drive 15 mins to hotel

Total time: 4 hours max (stretch it to 5 somehow if you want)

How the hell are you getting that you’re in the same ballpark or more flying?

Some of you people just don’t know how to travel efficiently. Fair if you don’t have to do it often.

I’ll drive instead of fly up to 7 hours for a short trip. Would drive 10 hours for more than an 8 day stay.

My music, much larger and more comfortable seag, and stop whenever I want to take a little break from the road.

Driving 20 hours to Philly Thanksgiving week, then 7 hours south to NC, then home. I tried to cut down on some of the driving by taking the direct flight to Charlotte, but flights were over $500 x 4 of us, then renting a car for a week, and I just couldn’t make the math work, so we’ll drive to Bristol, TN Friday and Philly on Saturday. I’m looking forward to seeing a different part of the country, especially this time of year.

My kids are 12 and 15. I may have a different opinion if they were 5 & 8.

You miss a lot when flying, I like to drive. Son lives in Richmond, I’ve flown it, but I’ll drive from now on. That area is beautiful. Drove to panhandle of TX for work. The flight from BTR to Amarillo was over 8 hours with the layover. The hell with that.

6ish hr is my max… for the right reason I could do 8-9

But if it’s not emergency and just some trip away? I tell my wife to keep it under 6hr.

Ooohh. New plan. Every hour less that 6hr it is, is an extra $xx or whatever wherever it is we’re going for her!

~8hrs is my cutoff. Anything less than 8 hrs just isn't worth the bullshite of dealing with TSA and standing in lines. Doubly worse if you have to connect.

As an airline pilot, I encourage all of you to fly though.

I would rather drive from Miami to Seattle than fly. Flying these days seems like moving a mix of cattle and extremely rude people.

Less than 10 hours, drive every time. Flying has become a miserable experience.

Flew to California in October and both connecting flights, departing and returning, were delayed by over 5 hours at Houston Int’l. Thanks United. Still didn’t want to drive to Cali though.

4-5 hours is my cutoff for driving. I drive all day and used to regularly have 13+ hour days on the road.

I don’t think I can take much more on the road if I’m trying to go somewhere to relax. I’ll fly out of BR if I can if there isn’t connecting flight to where I’m going.

I find that I’m far less stressed in the airport than in between the idiots on the road

Anything up to 8 hrs. is an automatic drive for me. Used to be a chore, but when we were doing the martial arts circuit with my kid, we were traveling 12-15 times/yr. We had to haul around a portable PA speaker, which was a hassle when flying. Once I started driving long trips on the reg, I got used to it.

I’d love to drive from Baton Rouge to Alaska. Bucket list item.
