Yep, this upcoming April will make 21 years for me. I quit drinking just after I turned 21.

I had a beer last weekend, before that it's been months.

I've never had an issue with drinking, but I've noticed in the past year having more than 1 drink (and sometimes only having 1 drink) would significantly impact my energy and well-being the next day. I don't get enough pleasure out of drinking to deal with that

I gave it up as a New Year’s resolution 12/31/08. Still going strong.

Yep for 49+ years. Never took a sip of alcohol in my life.

How can this be possible? Not even in High School?

Merry Christmas to you too! Holler at me sometime. Would love to catch up. I'm always available. And if you want someone to talk to about drying up, we can talk about that too. Just having someone to vent to when it sucks can make a difference.

BTW, the old lady just signed a contract and we are moving back to BR in July! 6 more months in DFW, then I'm finally going home.

I’ve been sober for 15 months. It was a hard drug for me; never was a drinker.

Sounds like you had a hell of a Mardi Gras 2019.
Nah, i had been on quite a bender for 5+ years before that spending $250-300 a week on booze and it was interfering with family, friends, and work.
I joined AA and have been extremely fortunate that this has worked for me on the first shot.

I haven't had a drink since 9:30 last night and I think it's time for my Saturday morning Bloody Mary.

Now, all kidding aside, I've gone as long as 2+ years without a drink just for the hell of it and for a long time when drinking regularly, I'd give up all alcohol for the duration of Lent.

Life's too short to remove simple pleasures, especially at my current age of 69. I drink a couple cocktails just about every night, haven't been "drunk" in ages since I have always hated hangovers. It's more for chilling out and taking the edge off the day.

If I had an issue keeping it in perspective, I'd likely quit and not have another drop.

Dude, its Christmas time. It takes several drinks per evening to maintain decency this time of year.

I usually pound a shot of rum or a hard seltzer and sit outside after work while I ride the buzz. But have not been legitimately hammered since February.
Does that count as sober?

Yes, for the last two years. I've only had a couple drinks.

This is what I've been at for about 2 years now on top of a heavy nicotine addiction. I've about cut all nicotine out though.

Man I’ve really been debating doing the same. I have no issues but I enjoy a few drinks from time to time. Problem is lately I can’t think straight and sleep like shite from just a light buzz. I’m not sure if it’s because I haven’t been working out either or just getting older. May try a few months no drinking in 2022 and see how my body feels.

No. But I need to. Just bought angel's envy and some trace for the holidays. Had to cx Christmas trip to LA because SO just got covid. So I'll have to put off quitting until later.

Nope. My grandfather was a raging alcoholic. I mean bad. On her deathbed, my 87 year old great grandmother(my grandfather's mother) who babysat me until I started school told me to please never touch alcohol like my grandfather had. I was 12 at the time and promised her I never would which I haven't. In high school I especially didn't want to because of football and baseball. I saw the drinkers, smokers, and dopers all throwing up, passing out, etc. during distance runs and sprints. Now, I hung out with drunks, went to parties, etc. but never drank. I don't have an addictive personality anyway. I'm strong enough not to let anything have control of me. My parents didn't drink because both of their fathers(my grandfathers) were horrible alcoholics. My wife has never drank either. It got to the point when I was in college my buddies that knew me wouldn't have let me drink if I wanted to. They'd step in if someone was trying to get me to drink. They all said they respected me for having that much will power.
