Wait your desired career path as a librarian didn’t satisfy you?

Eh, I think you’d be amazed at the number of lazy sacks of shite at any given hospital “working” in “administration” making a $100-120K a year.

Obviously not OT bawller status, but pretty good living compared to the average American salary.

Especially when you consider that they spend 50% of their time forwarding emails to the appropriate party or discussing the matter with their supervisor. Take out another 2 hours for lunch and 3 coffee breaks every day, and they might truly work 10 hours a week.

I would love to be Director of the Library, but I cant afford school and its lot of politics to rise to the top. I could make EBR library the best on the planet, or the state.

But alot of people from HS or college are going into healthcare

Never heard of a VP of nursing. Director of nursing is the job you're thinking of

Ours is called the CNO...chief nursing officer. They work directly under the hospital COO.

Don't know how much the CNO makes...but since a basic nursing manager at my hospital makes around 120k starting..I would imagine the CNO makes at least 200k.

My old hospital had a VP of nursing. Basically the nursing director, but with the VP tag, I guess they could pay her more money. The VP of marketing was the marketing director. Same with HR and other positions.

Yeah we have VPs of some departments(Quality, HR) but not for nursing.

Our CNO just hired an assistant CNO as well.

We've had lots of people in higher up positions lately "leaving without cake". Makes me glad I'm not that high up the totem pole. Seems like you get too high...too easy to get burned.

Nursing manager of Peds/PICU/Peds ED (my former boss when I still worked Peds) recently retired. She had been at that hospital over 40 years(her entire nursing career at one hospital).

Not one nurse from those departments applied for the job(even though there were a few that were well qualified for it and would have likely been offered the position if they applied). No one wanted that headache, even though it meant more money

Christ Jesus...do you work at the mayo clinic? I've never heard those numbers here. But it's been a while since I've worked in a major hospital, so perhaps it's changed.

I mean...floor nurses in AZ with experience easily make around 85-90k(not including overtime)...so a manager over them...120k doesn't sound so crazy.

Yeah depending on the hospital's triad, some have CNOs, some have VPs and some large facilities have both.

One local large medical center's President was the previous CNO.

Did hospital administration for 28 years. Not the cush job some purport it to be. You will make decent money in senior administration of a hospital, but you get used to 50-60 HR weeks and some call. Did it, but glad to finally retire.

You wont be dealing with the doctors much.

What? Healthcare admin deal with physicians quite often.

I work on the IS side of healthcare (consulting) and deal directly with healthcare admin daily. I’ve considered going back and getting an MHA or an MBA and moving into operations (I already have some experience there), but I don’t know if it’s worth it to leave the flexibility and pay of IS.

I believe that. I've gotten emails from my CNO late at night or at like 4 am. So even if she is home when she is writing them...she is still always working.
