You have to work a long time and move pretty high up before you make good money

My boss has an associates degree and well he’s my boss. Just cause you have a bachelor don’t mean you have to be a peon. And yes a masters is preferred for administration but not needed.

I guess I consider administrators as meaning CEO, CFO, CMO, VP of marketing, VP of nursing, etc.

I don’t consider every nursing supervisor and other supervisors to be “administration”. Although their primary responsibilities are administrative, I doubt that was what the OP was referring to.

Man most of the people who work in healthcare but are not doctors or nurses are fricking morons. If you have a bachelors and are willing to work your way up you’ll get hired by the Lake in a couple of years guaranteed. Go work a front desk for a year and if you’re halfway competent you’ll fly up the food chain.

I am a healthcare consultant, have been for 4.5 years. Practical experience helps... find what you are good at and just work in a clinic or hospital in a non clinical role. Become an expert... be in productivity, billing, collections, performance improvement... just something. Participate in what you can and just gain exposure to the system.

After a few years jump to consulting and leverage your expertise. You will make 2x what you can at a not for profit hospital. I have a masters degree but only got it after I became a consultant. I am non clinical and started in the quality department running analytics. Now I run a portion of a consulting terrain.

Never heard of a VP of nursing. Director of nursing is the job you're thinking of and you pretty much have to make it to that level to make OT money. And that's at big hospitals with lots and lots of competition and years and years of work. Most DON's in smaller places still don't make that much.

If you want to make money in nursing you have to go to grad school or the hired gun route of contracts and travel gigs.

Lots and lots of not so smart nurses. I've met plenty of docs that have baffled me as well. Plenty of people are good at the school part of medicine but aren't great in practice.
