Even changes that are common sense and simple require going through hours of bullshite with administration.

I mean...floor nurses in AZ with experience easily make around 85-90k(not including overtime)...so a manager over them...120k doesn't sound so crazy.

Ah... Makes more sense. Is AZ union like CA? I was thinking LA just due to LSU avatar.

You would need to have common sense to use it

I swear they exist solely to make staff's jobs harder. "You need to start doing this as well and no, we're not paying you any more for it."

Love the "just change the policy" attitude some have...like it's that simple

Which takes like 6 months to do with all the committees it has to roll through.

I'm learning that many seem to think a lot of stuff is infection control's policy when it is not.

AZ is not union. West in general pays fairly well in nursing. CA being the highest paid nurses in the U.S.

You think they just make things up to be a pain in the arse? I’d be willing to bet most of the things they do to “make staff’s jobs harder” are done for compliance/regulatory reasons or are revenue driven.

I was, retired 3 years ago. Always wanted to be an Administrator-Director of General Psychiatric Programs (civilly committed persons, some on criminal commitments). Have a Master of Social Work from LSU.

Possibly ha, just depends on where you are. No one is making up shite just to make the staff’s jobs harder, though

No but it really feels like it when you are on the short end of the stick in that situation.

Why I left the bedside. Can't beat em? Get the frick away from the bedside. Let someone else deal with the bullshite.

Now I just have to fuss at people to wash their fricking hands

Knowing how docs are ("Show me the evidence") we actually had a resident get pissy one time asking for evidence on handwashing.

This is specific to the healthcare industry?

The Programs like Clinical Laboratory Sciences (Med Tech) and cardiopulmonary science at the LSU Health Sciences Centers are aggressively seeking students. These are bachelor’s level degrees with graduate options later but the job market is very hot now. Many hospitals paying sign on bonuses and median salary for first five years is around $55,000.

Did hospital administration for 28 years. Not the cush job some purport it to be. You will make decent money in senior administration of a hospital, but you get used to 50-60 HR weeks and some call.

I guess I didn’t factor in all the time it would take to scroll through each quintuply forwarded email.

Just absolutely grueling.

Male Occupational Therapist here. Made a career change at 30. Got my Matsters in OT at LSU in Nola. I work with older adults. This is my first year out of school and I easily make more than most of my class because I live in a high demand area and bc I’m a male in a female dominated profession. Shoot me any questions you have. Good luck.

No, I don't. You're right. And I think it's like nurse said.

I do think a lot of them are clueless about how it will affect day to day operations and don't factor those things in appropriately. They either a) didn't ever have to actually get their hands dirty or b) only did it long enough to move up and probably sucked at it when they were doing it. Of course that's just my personal bias. I'm sure there are plenty of exceptions. I don't think I'm that far off though.

I deal a lot with workflow changes/new policy implementation and we always include physician/nurse champions in the conversations to get the perspective of clinicians and how the changes will impact their workflows/job.

On the other hand, I have seen a CFO stand up in front of a group of future providers (my wife was in there) and tell them that they shouldn't spend more than 15 minutes with a patient, which is literally impossible in some fields
