I just hope that our hospital will eventually buy us the EPIC infection control module. Keep hearing how awesome it is and how much easier it will make my life.

Ok job if you can sleep at night knowing you are screwing patients and if you are good at under the table fraudulent insurance billing practices. They all do it.

Lol... no they don't. Not sure where you work. Sounds like it's not a very good place.

BBA in Accounting, Masters in Healthcare Administration. I can assure you that we don't all do it.

It all seriousness, it USED to be a very good degree to have. Now it seems like they are a dime a dozen.

Suck it up and become a nurse.

You won't be rich, but will have a more than comfortable lifestyle.

G'luck dealing with crap patients though.

What's your current occupation. With the exception of going the finance route, without experience, the degree is worthless. Don't be fooled into the MHA. Get a MBA instead because it's more versatile to all fields.

On the other hand, I have seen a CFO stand up in front of a group of future providers (my wife was in there) and tell them that they shouldn't spend more than 15 minutes with a patient, which is literally impossible in some fields

Yeah, that's asinine. You don't even begin to get the whole story that quick, let alone assess anything. Of course, you said he was a CFO so that explains it.

Great! That’s exactly what we need! More do nothings to increase the price of healthcare and nag doctors all day!

Hey.. you went to school for a VERY long time. If you can't assess a patient in 15 minutes, something's wrong.

I can walk into your office, look over your books, tell you exactly whats wrong and devise a budget for the next 10 years for you in under 15 minutes.

/sarcasm.

Anyone here work in healthcare Administration?

Good morning all.

Just wanted to say, after reading this thread, I LOVE my private practice gig! All my fellow grad students wanted to be hospital CFO's, CEO's, COO's, etc...

And all of you complaining about "us" are right. Those big arse engines hardly move at all. Dynamic problems can not be corrected in any kind of timely manner. Hospitals have become real estate companies far more than healthcare providers. Providing healthcare has become secondary to non-medical service lines and "member" marketshare. And those people who do provide healthcare (many of you in here) are always fighting a losing battle for resources against those (more profitable) service lines.

OP, I love the spot I'm in. But I think I'd be miserable if I followed the route my classmates took into hospital administration. I have 16 employees, 6 docs, 2 offices, a good salary for an admin in the medical center, and a great work life balance. I'm home to my kids by 5:00 every day. I have 2 physician owners that allow me to (mostly) do what I think is best, and we implement change quickly and with purpose. It's true that I have to, essentially, do (or delegate) everything. Finance, bookkeeping, HR, legal and partnership, credentialing, IT, front and back office coordination. But there is satisfaction in the variety of hats I have to where. Nothing gets boring or stale.

TLDR version: Healthcare admin can take you more places than just to a hospital. Those places can suck the soul out of you. Group practice management is/was a great choice for me. But you need the masters degree, IMO.

I have Cadillac insurance and don’t pay a dime for it. I also have the ability to witness first hand the shadiness that goes on with hospital and insurance billing and it should be considered criminal in my opinion. Just plain wrong.

S-I-L is a COO at the largest hospital in her State.

She just finished her PhD in Healthcare Administration but started as a floor nurse with BSN.

She does OK money-wise (~$250-$300k per year) but it took a long time as she didn't move around from hospital to hospital.

I know lotsa local folks who are in Healthcare Administration, good money, but you have to have the right temperament to survive & thrive.

More women in positions of authority in that field than many other fields in the US.

Can you work well under a woman?:rimshot:

I fu**ing wish! I'm taking off Friday just to go get fitted for a new driver. I've escaped once this year to play golf during work hours. It was glorious, but only once.
