A buddy and I were tent-camping along The Wild Azalea Trail and in the middle of the night what I assume was a wild horse galloped right by our tent. The ground was shaking, startled the hell out of us.
They do have wild horses in Kisatchie, you assume right. I’ve seen them

Nothing better than pissing off the camp porch in the middle of the night

That is different than camping in the woods alone.

I grew up in the swamp and not scared of the woods but might be too pussy to camp alone.

I open carry a pistol when camping. Other people are my concern too. I would camp well off trail.

If you're in a structure that's glamping. Real camping is paying hundreds of dollars for stuff to live like a homeless person for fun.

I like to search around and find other people camping and then when they aren’t looking, i put raw meat by their tents so it attracts bears and other predators
It’s amazing how simple it is to make hikers go missing by just letting nature take care of it for you

Yes they do. Supposedly released back in the day by Fort Polk when they no longer needed them or wanted them. Some of them wound up outside of Kisatchie. There is a group of them in Woodworth. Pretty palomino Shetland pony-looking herd.

Only thing scary was some drunk guys came and were making a fire and pouring gas on it
It was only for a few nights and then they moved on
I don’t think I’d camp in the woods by myself. I don’t really like to stay in a hotel by myself.

I try to spend a couple weeks in the back country alone a year. About the only scary thing was a pack of wolves getting a kill at about 3 am one year. The sounds those frocking wolves made was unnerving.

I couldn’t do it. First of all I’m not a big guy so carrying the supplies would probably kill me. So the tent would be very small, and I’d feel like something was standing there next to me outside of the tent. It all just sounds awful. I might do a canoe float type camping trip. That would eliminate the heavy gear problem.
