Sober date is 6/12/24

Just turned 40. Just got engaged. Can’t imagine a better life.

Drugs and alcohol ruined everything for me.

I dropped it about 3 years ago and I got through it ok.. But my issue was something else and that was way harder and the withdrawals were terrible. But thankfully I’m on the other side of it now and never going back.

Good luck to you! And the pain is temporary so you can do it! Seek some help if it’s too much for you. No shame in asking for help.

I never thought I could beat my problem. I was trapped and thought I had no way out. But by the grace of God, it happened.

After witnessing the aftermath of a drunk commiting a head-on accident that killed 3 female generations of one family in a nano second I QUIT. 1999
No telling how many times I've driven drunk. I decided I never want to suffer guilt like that a-hole.

You can do it man. Its amazing how much better life is without it. I got off booze and prescribed benzos a year will be jan 10th. Withdrawals sucked, brain fog, shakes. But once you get past that the mental clarity and lack of anxiety and overall appreciation and enjoyment for life and the small things really open your eyes. You can do it! Best thing ive ever done back to focusing on hunting, fishing, kids, and family. Best decision i ever made no more poisoning yourself.

Six and a half years sober - didn't get sick after but I was one ornery bastard. It took years for the mood swings and such to calm down because it was the first time in over twenty years I had to deal with extreme emotions and not run to the bottle. Hardest day of my sobriety was when I was told I had cancer for the second time and might not survive it. I sat on the tailgate of my truck crying in the hospital parking lot running through my options, and getting drunk then committing suicide was near the top. I was seriously about to just not tell anyone the diagnosis and just go take care of business privately in the woods.
Booze can do some fricked up stuff to your brain, especially when you reach a level of alcoholism that you just cannot function or process emotions without it. I go to AA meetings a couple of times per week and listen to podcasts nearly every day trying to make it through.

I had where your body can’t sit still
Have the shits
Stomach nauseated 24/7
Depressed really bad
Anxious as heck

1. find a couple Valium or similar
Take it when your feeling like your about to jump out of your skin

2. SWEAT IT OUT (sweat vest/gym)

3. Get involved in a Men’s church group, 1-2 nights week.

Fill the new fresh mind and time you have with positivity and the Lord.

Get past the 1st week and it’s clear sailing from there.

Your life is going to improve.

Clarity

Depression almost gone depending on your daily relaties.

You’ll be 10x more productive.

And when you feel the urge, remember the bad times with drinking. All the money blown, relationships, career ops gone or whatever

This was definitely my favorite but they don’t have in person ones here and the zoom ones didn’t fulfill that community aspect I needed. So NA for me

I stopped for three straight weeks without a drink. But recently decided to self impose no drink worknights or off days unless I'm at a function or party I may have a few drinks. This basically nearly eliminates my drinking consistency as I work 5-6 nights a week. I'm overall functioning better. I don't really see a reason to go to zero beers for the rest of my time but on the other hand waking up hung over daily is not functional anymore.

Sure. Quit for a while after I found out I had afib. Doctors had me freaked out.

But I didn't drink like ya'll do, so no physical impact. Life just got boring. I got over it, thank goodness.

every time there’s a going sober thread someone posts something like this and my jaw hits the floor. I can’t comprehend drinking that much once much less every day. How do you stay conscious?

The human body is quite the well designed machine.
If you have the right genes it’s not unsual.
If you don’t it’s a death sentence.
