Only when I was an alter boy.

Wouldn't you think regularly attending Catholic mass is a requirement for being a good Catholic?
Only He can make that determination

You can't honestly sit there and tell me that a "stopping to grab a hamburger" is really any sort of sacrifice...sure its less than a seafood platter, but its still violates the Catholic standard of no meat on Fridays during lent. People who justify eating meat on Friday because its "not a seafood platter or boiled crawfish" are missing the point. There are literally dozens of options out there that accomplish both the "sacrifice" aspect and the "no meat" aspect.
Its my personal choice to comply with both. I don't really care what others do and I certainly don't care to brag, I was simply pointing out there are ways to not eat meat that don't involve seafood platters.

So damn dumb. Hey let’s hide the fact priests molest little boys. Hey don’t eat meat on Friday though you going to hell if you do.
Simmer it down...we get it you hate God. Stop acting like not eating meat on Lent Fridays, is a new thing to be used as a "cover up". Perhaps things would be better if more Catholics respected their traditions more. Instead of moving away from them.

The entire don't eat meat thing is preposterous. The fact that seafood isn't considered meat, is doubly preposterous.
Does any of this sound familiar?
1 Timothy 4:
Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons...
3: Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

You did about your pb and j.
That's my whole point. Just focus on you. That's all that matters.

How can you brag about a sammich? At this point you're just being absurd.

If a requirement of being a Catholic is weekly consumption of the Eucharist in addition to holy days and you only go twice a year, you aren't a good Catholic. Those are facts, not judgements.

Bragging about it being a bigger sacrifice.

I guess it's called crab meat every time of the year but lent?
Posted on 3/8/19 at 1:12 pm to WaydownSouth
I eat meat on Fridays during lent mostly because I do Whole30 during Lent. That's way more of a sacrifice than someone from south Louisiana being forced to eat a platter of fried shrimp.
Posted on 3/8/19 at 1:14 pm to WaydownSouth
Lent and Marti gras are useless BS.

Not bragging, using it as an example. Would you have preferred if I simply stated that a PB&J is an example of a bigger sacrifice than someone else cooking a hamburger for you?
Regardless, the fact remains, 99 out of 100 people would say that eating a PB&J from home is more of a sacrifice than getting a burger from a burger joint. Lets not forget it also adheres to the "no meat" part.
IMHO a hamburger IS a bigger sacrifice than a platter of boiled crawdads, but boiled seafood is not the only option when choosing to abstain from eating meat.

Iirc has something to do with fish not being considered by Jews to be the same as beef/birds/etc mixed with the orginal Latin term for "meat" being "carne" which is land animals, including birds. Why I believe gator is good to go on Lent Fridays.
It's somewhere in there. So I guess since we are in a "mess with centuries of traditions" society, as of late, I guess just do whatever the hell floats your boat, but let others do the same w/o being so dram about it.

It’s about the sacrifice rather than the actual not eating meat.

I didn’t read any other responses in this thread. So here we go.
When The Catholic Church gets off its collective arse and starts demanding excommunication and local prosecution for child abusers, then I’ll start taking the faith seriously again. My father and I do not agree on this topic as he believes I should be loyal to the church no matter and fight it within. I’ll be damned if I’m paying any tithe to any denomination that isn’t actively protecting their own children. Fool me in early 80’s. Fool me in Philly. Now I’m pissed. They’ve had the chance multiple times over the last 50 years to get it right, and they are still screwing it up. I do not get it, and it absolutely saddens me to type this. Now, they are releasing names of priests and individuals where there was a credible investigation....years later? What good does that do? I find it cowardice. The more I hear about bishops and carnivals protecting these bastards drives me further away. My local parish is a great and growing community over the past 40 yrs. However, this is a sin I cannot overlook. And if I’m to be judged on my own sins, the Church itself needs to be judged on its own sins as well. I despise hypocrites. I think I last went to Mass in 2016.
Maybe we should go back to priest being allowed to wed again, as they were allowed to in the past. Everyone agrees that priests should be leaders of their communities. What better example for a family?
It actually took more than I thought to type this out as I was raised in the church. Such a great tragedy.
