I know one guy who works there and lives off of Highland, but he has been WFH mostly since last March, so he may have forgotten the hell of the commute lol.

Depends where he lives off of Highland. If it’s near campus, it’s not that bad - you just take the Nicholson exit, then take Nicholson over to the LSU area and cut back over to Highland. You still fight the traffic from the intracoastal to the top of the bridge but you don’t have to frick with the 10/110 merger or I-10 through BR.

If it’s the other end of Highland (e.g. near CCLA/Blue Bayou/etc.) that’s a shitty commute over the bridge but he can maybe take the ferry.

Living around Kenilworth is probably awful though.

On a bet, I once drank an 8 pack of 8 oz Budweiser's between the Hop and Shop on Railroad Ave in Plaquemine and the I-10 bridge. And that was with my dickhead buddy driving 85 thru Brusly trying to make me lose the bet.

It was on a weekend night, no traffic, and if I remember correctly, it was 12 minutes. I now realize this in no way helps you, sorry.

If anything, I figured out I'd need to keep an ice chest stocked with 8 oz Budweiser's to deal with the commute

Maps has me taking 110 to Florida, so I'm sure I could take Nicholson exit toward downtown and catch florida there.

Idk, it's a lot to consider. What I do know for sure is that the GF will never move there. She lived there for 3 years when she first moved to Louisiana and has said never again. So maybe I don't take the job, or I could get out to the pelican point area and take sunshine instead

I commuted from Gonzales to the west side for 2 years before I said I had to move to the west side or find a new job. I tell the people I work with just to suck it up and move here if you want a long term career on the west side.

Honestly, I didn’t even consider the fact that you can take 110 to Florida to get to Mid City. That might not be bad. I never go North on 110 from the bridge but it seems like you would be opposite the traffic at that time of day.

That intracoastal bridge and I-10E bridge traffic is brutal. In the afternoons, I’ve regularly seen it backed up in the N/B lanes of La 1 from the bridge to south of Brusly High

Don’t envy anyone that has to make that trip daily.

And it’s about to get much worse for a few years with them about to start replacing the intracoastal bridge

My wife (No pics) drove from Zachary to Plaquemine daily for about 7 years for me. I still tell people I am not worth that.

Takes me an hour from the DOW gates to Hoo Shoo Too rd and on a good day 45 mins. I have to do some trickery but I know a few tricks. Gotta frick the system and do some trickery on LA1 and ride through the hood, but I clip 30 mins off my ride every day

Once you hit the 10-12 split it becomes wide open.

I have wondered why there havent been discussions of a second bridge next to the "new" I-10 bridge (similar to New Orleans) that would utilize I-110 to connect to a new stretch of interstate constructed thru the Florida Blvd to Airline Hwy to I-12 corridor where it would tie into I-12.

The width of Florida Blvd for much of that route has been sitting there unused for decades, just being infrequently mowed.

What kind of sorcery we talking cause that's a much longer commute than what I would have, and everywhere says at least an hour 15.

ETA: I don’t normally work in Plaquemine, but I do have to go to customer sites there fairly often. Usually I find that if I can leave Plaquemine before 2:30-3, it’s smooth sailing with a minor slowdown at the I-10 on-ramp. From 3-4 it’s basically a crawl from the on-ramp to the 10/110 merger. After 4, you just pray that there are no wrecks.

Pretty much this.

I'll move mountains to not be on EB I-10 through BR from 2:45 - 6:30pm daily.

Some of my customers would get pissed, but I had a hard stop time of 2:30, or I'm billing them till 7pm.

My quality of life definitely improved when I moved out of BR and didn’t have to deal with the traffic anymore

Move into wbr or iberville. Area is growing, affordable and less crime. I moved closer to work and it's been a good call over time.

I've seen the daily Daytona500 when Dow opens the contractor floodgates. Not sure if Smoke225 is amongst them.

I did the Dow-BR commute for almost 40 years. For the first 25 traffic wasn't bad except for the occasional wreck on LA1 or the bridge. But for the last 15, daily traffic got progressively worse and the frequency of shutdown level wrecks increased. My detours to the old bridge became more frequent, but many times it was equally jammed up.

Finally resigned myself to stay in my office until 6:00 or so, mostly working, sometimes passing time on this board, with regular checks on Waze or the DOTD cameras at LA1-I10.

As poster above mentioned, work is supposed to start on the replacement bridges over the Intracoastal Waterway. That will not help with your commute time.

Don't take the Plaquemine job, move to Brusly, or suck it up and find a car with a comfortable seat, good a/c and good sound system. Good luck

Sounds like I'll have to figure something out hours wise. I know one guy who works there and lives off of Highland, but he has been WFH mostly since last March, so he may have forgotten the hell of the commute lol.

Well, and you have to take into account he has the advantage of getting off at Nicholson which is basically immediately over the bridge.

I live off Highland near Lee and that's where I get off, and its a huge difference from sitting on the interstate for several more miles. You won't have that advantage unless you plan to take Nicholson to Government or North and head into Mid City that way, which is what I'd do if I were you. I would do North. That's the clearest of those roads running parallel.

Considering taking a job there. Wondering just how hellish the commute is in the evenings. My daily commute now is 20-25 minutes (live in mid-city), so driving to Plaquemine would more than double that.

I make that drive in about 45 min. Trick in the afternoon is go Old Bridge.
