That said, why do you ask?
I have always been interested in one day making a trip to Japan, and experiencing the culture and natural beauty first-hand. Wanted to see who all has gone and what their time there was like.

You won't be disappointed.
I would suggest, on your way out, route your way out through HK and spend a day/night there.

Watch out for tentacle monsters...they get a bit touchy

Yes. I spent a few weeks in Tokyo and Kyoto. I thought it was unique, beautiful, and fascinating. One of the few times in my wide travels when I actually felt I had encountered an enchanting and foreign culture, rather than a slightly altered replica of the west. Since the trip, my infatuation with Japanese art, fashion, literature, movies, and culture has continued. I have even taught myself to read and speak rudimentary Japanese.

I was there over 9/11 for work. Doing a safety evaluation of a sushi robot company. Cutters, rollers, mall contraptions...US closed the country, it was strange.

My wife (no pics) is Japanese and we've been there 5 times to visit her parents who still live there. It's an amazing place and culture, and, of course, the sushi is fantastic. The people there are friendly, helpful, and proud of their culture.
It's one the safest countries in the world. We walked around at night plenty of times and and never felt unsafe.
Plenty of fantastic places to shop, eat, and just soak in the experience. It's easy to get around via the bullet trains. Although avoid them in the morning when everyone is trying to get on them to get to work. If you have an opportunity to go book a trip for at least 10 days and travel all over the country to the smaller towns. We're planning on going back this Sept.

Vacationed there.
My Nephew lived there for about 6 years, he’s fluent in Japanese and really gets their culture.
He was my minder.
You need a minder outside of Tokyo & Kyoto.
Wonderful place. Recommended

Currently live and work in JP.
People are really nice, but don't expect anyone to be really open or talk to you if you don't know them. The exception is if you are out drinking. My friends and I often get people that have been encouraged by alcohol to test their English ability at bars.
There are a few things to figure out with traveling, but its very convenient in the cities. I saw a poster mention no English signs, but in my experience the main roads and all train stations, airports etc have English.

Spent two weeks there between Tokyo, Kyoto and Hiroshima. Loved it! I’m not usually one that likes big cities but Tokyo is awesome and doesn’t feel like a huge city with how good the metro is. Very clean and safe with tons of good food. I will definitely go back at some point.

I spent a few days in Tokyo. It was fun. People were nice. Temples were really cool. Very clean. Traffic cops have uniforms as snazzy as the SS. That’s all I can really say. lol Nothing outstanding happened. I have no burning desire to go back on my own dime but would if a friend paid for everything. I wish I would have gone to a pro baseball game there. They look to be a shite ton of fun.

I've seen tons of posts about this. What makes Tokyo, and Japan in general, so safe?

Can you buy 50 acres, turn a dog loose and put a car up on blocks? I’m ready to relocate.

Culture, baw. It’s all about honor and respect.
Deep down, they probably hate your Gaijin arse but they won’t show it.
I felt safe everywhere in Tokyo. Then again I didn’t know the city that well so I could have been walking through their version of Compton and not even know it.

Hell no baw. They have urn cemeteries in between convenience stores because of not enough space.

Ethnically homogeneous population. That’s the most I can say without getting banned.
