Watching First 48 and curious what it’s like. Seems pretty cool, dress nice and travel around free reign in the city solving murders. Then again, maybe that feeling wears off soon?

Neither of those are true. How old are you?

I knew a few on NOPD. They bailed as soon as they were eligible to retire.

I knew a Detective Bunk and McNulty. Total degenerates but you needed clearances? Forget about it.

I met a BRPD detective at the bar at Chimes once. He seemed aggravated that his Tinder date turned out to be a chubby liberal chick. He started talking to us instead of the girl. Seemed like a cool guy.

Detective Dick Richard posts on the Aggie Board some.

Or so I’ve been told.

I have a friend who was one with APSO. He ended up going back to patrol duty. Wasn’t for him.

I once was "interviewed" by a homicide detective. Seemed like a complete dumbass, bragging about being on America's most wanted, for not solving the case i was being questioned about

i saw a few on TV, they were good and most of them completely solved every crime within an hour and some did it in just 30 minutes

seriously though, i think i rather be a garbage man then a homicide detective. frick all that gore and dead bodies

First thing to remember is that maybe one out of a hundred killings is a whodunnit. Almost all are domestic violence and drug bullshite. So what you are really doing is scooping up the pieces and writing a bunch of reports. Not much investigating.

I know Tony Mullins from Memphis PD that was one of the original stars of the first 48.

He’s about 5’5 and wears jorts when not ar work. I think he’s on his 3rd marriage. He’s a great detective and closes cases. But it’s a shitty job.

Used to be neighbors with one. Now he is with FBI. Had many a conversations with him about his job.

He smoked like a freight train and said he would normally only be able to get about 3 hours of sleep a night. He said between what he has seen and cases he was working, his mind never stopped long enough to sleep a good night.

Very nice guy, but weird work addiction.

Knew a few NOPD. One I knew very well. These were active prior to today’s way of doing things. The one I knew very well dealt with a few very high profile murders in New Orleans. I can assure you, it’s not a career for the faint of heart or to be romanticized.

I knew one in BR. I think he moved to Dallas for better pay and a safer job.

I know several. They were all NOPD back in the 80's and 90's. They seemed to like it ok. The stories are great. None of them would be a cop in Nola nowadays.

That guy takes care of business. He plays the cleanup bad cop in interviews when the perp won’t cooperate and just starts a come to Jesus meeting with veiled threats until the guy cracks and confesses.
