re: Anyone heard of a “sandwich leave” policy at work? Nothing to do with food.

I worked at one place that did that. Also, a paid holiday was $40 there, not your regular pay. I didn't stay there long. Ended up suing them.

Only in the military but that had to do with being on ready alert or not and mileage away from base.
If I was further than the recall time, I had to be on leave or get a mileage waiver.

If any non military place does this in the US, they will deserve what’s coming to them with lots of turnover and shitty employees being all they will be able to hire.

Union workers would never approve that

How is that even legal? And unless that job was sunscreen applicator for Sydney Sweeney, I’d quit.

This company would not last

Just looked, it’s an India thing. No wonder they all want to come here.
Posted on 8/16/25 at 8:44 pm to concrete_tiger
The thing is that Indians getting C-suite jobs is probably why it’s starting to perculate here.
It’s straight up worker exploitation.
The military examples brought up here are kind of a fringe example because there is some degree of expectation of 24/7 availability. And as others have pointed out, they get 2-3 times more off days than most civilian jobs to compensate.

Seems like nonsense. How is it different than taking Thursday-Friday or Monday-Tuesday off?

An Indian takeover will be a HORRIBLE thing for Americans. They are still caste system over there and we are scum to them.

That's the way it works in the military, or at least to work.
I doubt many, if any, civilian employers do this.

Can confirm. Ran away from a job a few months back that was completely soul sucking to the point that it was talking points how the entire department walks around like they got their shite kicked in everyday.
Every conversation is “prove to me you aren’t an idiot.”
Similarly, failures are swept under the rug for the favorites (who are typically Indian), but if you get targeted even successes are twisted into failures in reporting.
She can be late to her own meeting and she would spin it as your fault. Complete narcissism
No lie is too far if it promotes personal advancement. I’ve never felt more slimy than during the audit I did with her. We were fully prepared and had our ducks in the row documenting any variation of protocol and corrective actions, but she would suggest every all year was perfect which was impossible in a manufacturing context. Midway through( it was a week long review of documentation) he squeezed her with a few questions and closed with, “Ah, I see what is happening here. You want all the authority and accolades but you want him to have all the accountability.” Basically shut her out for the rest of the audit, telling her he was tired of her approach and the only reason why he isn’t going to press harder on penalizing us on our rating is that he wasn’t going to let her blame me for her decisions.

Unless you were scheduled t work that weekend, how is this not a Fair Labor Standards Act violation?

Given that it says nothing about PTO benefits how about you explain why you think it is?
Only thing that comes close is allowing the employer to offer comp time in lieu of cash for overtime work.

I thought it's when you have a quickie rendezvous with a sidepiece before you get sandwiched between a rock and a hard place.
