Anyone have their master bedroom upstairs? How do you like it?

I’m in the market for homes and came across a house that I really like, thing is all bedrooms are upstairs. I’ve never lived in a 2 story so I don’t know what it’s like.
For those of you who do or have lived in a home like this, is it annoying walking upstairs ever time you need to go to your room or does it become second nature and don’t even notice it.

Used to have a house like that and IMO yes it is a bit annoying.

Although about 25 years ago I lived in a 3 floor split level and actually kind of liked that setup.

In my experience, we got used to the stairs. The problem is the temp differences if there isn't a 2nd hvac upstairs or some sort of dual zone climate control.

I have and didn’t love it but it wasn’t terrible but my wife (no pics) absolutely hated it. We’ve since only had the master suite on first floor… it’s in the “must have” category now. Good luck!

Have a three story house. Master is on the second. I enjoy it...clear separation between kitchen/living room and the bedroom

Guess you may want to consider age or if there is your “forever home”. I have relatives in their 50s who already had knee replacement. Stairs were no fun.

I grew up in a house like that. All four bedrooms were upstairs. Growing up, I guess I didn't mind it too bad. It was easy enough to sneak out. It may have a negative affect on your resale though, of course, that's if you ever want to sell it. Many buyers would want the master on the main floor.

if you're house ever floods, at least you can go upstairs and sleep.

this, HVAC considerations, and whether having your W/D on a different floor would bother you

I do. I have 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths upstairs which includes a master bath and master bedroom. The MB and MBdrm takes up half the upstairs. I have a den, dining room, kitchen, utility room, bathroom, bedroom(now an office), foyer and hallway downstairs. The 2 stories are perched over a full basement with a finished room as well. I like having the bedroom upstairs as I can easily see the front yard through the palladium windows.

Never had an issue with it. Unless you have medical issues, the stairs aren’t a big deal and are actually good for your health. I’ve always enjoyed having a bedroom above. If someone is in the kitchen or up late, the other can be upstairs and not be disturbed.

We live in an older house built in the 60s. There wasn’t a true master with an attached bath when we moved in. The larger bedroom was upstairs and we slept up there a few years when the kids were younger. Now that we’ve got more in the family we converted an old den into a master bath and walk in closet. Should have done it well before then. Main level master is great. Close to the kitchen and laundry room.

That being said, our first place was a new construction townhome and the first level was all living room and kitchen with a half bath and the whole second floor was all bedrooms and laundry. You get used to whatever you live in but it is sort of nice having the kids upstairs at night now and we’re downstairs.
