Have a pair of shoes I was supposed to get delivered yesterday. Now the tracking doesn't even tell me where it's at. It left Des Moines Iowa 4 days ago and it just says " in system"

Had something shipped from a vendor in New Mexico on the 6th. It was last updated at Albuquerque 3 days later. It went missing for over 10 days. I filed a missing package inquiry and they came back 5 days later saying it was lost and to file an insurance claim. Luckily the vendor sent a replacement and dealt with the insurance herself.
A few weeks before this, I had a package mailed from Maurepas, La. to Baton Rouge. It went to Little Rock, then travelled all the way to Bismarck North Dakota. Then traveled to Fargo. 14 days later, it showed up in Baton Rouge. It was a well travelled package??
USPS is not what it used to be a decade ago.

Trump wants the USPS to be ran

Why are you using the past tense there? Is that something that already happened?

Or do you really not know the difference between "ran" and "run"?

Yea, Trump wants the USPS to be ran by a private sector and once again this is a very very very very very bad thing according to people with TDS. Meanwhile, nobody can get their fricking mail on time with the gov running it

The problem is that many of us here have businesses where we ship and receive a ton of packages. We have too much experience with all the services.

FED EX and UPS are the most effective daily advertisements against privatizing USPS since they offer all the problems of USPS (and more) at often double the cost.

Like UPS, they adjust the actual timeline to what you paid for. I've watched something shipped UPS from Dallas to Houston in less than a day, then sit in the Stafford distribution center for three and a half days (which is a 30 minute drive), until it was out for delivery on the 5th day, because the shipper paid for "3-5 day" shipping.

But you should have known better based on the threads here that kicked off in November.

Depends on the size.

Priority is faster for larger packages. No advantage over first class for small items.

USPS Priority Mail says it will deliver in 1-3 days

As a career USPS employee, I can say with 100% certainty, the 1-3 delivery window for Priority Mail was the standard prior to Covid and prior to the Postmaster General’s changes to our logistics network. On rare occasions I see packages make the delivery standard but it is not common.
15-20 years ago, it was rare that I had to try and track down a delayed or missing package. The last 5 years, it’s at least 3 or 4 days a week. PMG DeJoy has announced he is stepping down. If Trump and Musk leave us alone, I am optimistic we can be as efficient as we used to be.
I will say that automation causes a lot of the delays. Parcels sorted on machines at processing centers, drop off the machines into containers. If it falls into the wrong container, we won’t notice until that container reaches its next destination which sometimes can be states away.
Currently we are seeing the longest delays in Louisville and Indianapolis. If you see your package receiving a scan in Palmetto, GA, pray for it. That is the new processing center outside of Atlanta where packages go to die. Just last week I was able to get a package out of that facility that had been there since December, mailed from Colorado going to Camp LeJune.
If you have a package delayed, instead of talking to the local Post Office, you need to initiate a “missing mail” inquiry via our website. Here’s the most important part: You must insist your Post Office gets assistance from USPS Consumer Affairs. They are able to contact the processing centers to locate packages that appear to be looping (receiving multiple scans across several days at the same or neighboring facility.

It took 2 weeks for regular non priority envelope to get from Charleston to Metairie.

Gave a whole new meaning to "the checks in the mail".

USPS sucks.

I use UPS or FedEx ground almost exclusively.

Same for FedEx. Sometimes I wish I could just drive down to the facility in Stafford and pick it up in a 40 minute round trip.

ETA: no, FedEx is Missouri City. But same difference; I've stared at the tracking plenty of times wondering how long it would take for the last leg from Stafford or MO City.

My wife shipped a priority package to Illinois - to arrive by Valentine’s Day. It made it to Indianapolis, then DC, then back to Indianapolis, and finally to its destination 2 weeks after shipping and certainly not by Valentine’s Day.

I mailed a small package from Louisiana to Alabama with priority mail. I mailed it 1/17/2025 and was delivered 2/10/2025. I had written it off as a loss then got a notification that it was due to be delivered.

I have absolutely zero trouble with usps. I ship and received probably 10 packages combined a week that I print labels and my kind reliable mail lady grabs from my mailbox

Knock on wood but I can't remember the last time I've had a package not be on time.

You are one of the few fortunate ones who has decent, competent people working at your local post office. But the majority of post offices, especially in bigger cities are full of incompetent workers and dei hires.
