Been thinking about doing it so I can reduce the amount of seizure meds I take. I could stand to drop a max of 10-15lbs, so I'm worried I'll lose too much and also about getting sick. Right now, I eat 4-5000cal/day. I don't think fasting is an option without me being okay with passing out. Pasta and whole milk have always been a major staple of my diet

Gf picked up a big book with like 150 recipes from the library, and I might slowly start working into it

What are the "cons" of this diet?

Hitting the macros can be done without eating healthy.

If done correctly, it’s very healthy.

Head over to the Health and Fitness Board for the Official Thread on Keto life led below.

You will avoid all the blatant lies and disinformation such as the below...

I tried it last year. It made me realllllyyy sick. I’m talking 104° fever. I went to the doctor and got a piss test. They said I was so low on electrolytes that if I didn’t eat some carbs in the next couple of hours that I could possibly go into a coma. That ended real fast.

Yeah zero of this happened.

People think this because they look at a keto diet as bacon grease and burgers with no bun.

Technically it can be because that will surely get you into ketogenesis, but as in everything there's a healthy way and a not so healthy way.

A meal of baked chicken breast, spinach and broccoli can also get you into ketogenesis, and you'll be hard-pressed to find anyone that tells you that's unhealthy.

I don't do it, but I've seen and read plenty enough about it to have an opinion that it can be healthy and effective. It's just really hard for most people.

Well heart disease, diabetes and overall obesity has gone up eating the diet that's been forced into the minds of Americans. So continue on.

The availability of cheap food did this, Not people following misguided diet principles. Now diet has ever promoted eating all of the process trash available to us now.

I have lost 21 pounds in 2 months. I am in heaven. It’s a lifestyle change, not a diet.

And as of my doctors visit this week I am no longer type 2 diabetic.

I lost about 20 lbs. I had to get off because it raised my Cholestrol.

Needless to say, it isn’t good for your body. I had an especially bad reaction to it.

Keto/Paleo raised my LDL to the point my Doc wanted me on meds. I said to the hell with all that and went plant based and limited my meat consumption. I’ll never give up steak

Its a quick fix to lose weight. It isn’t sustainable as a lifestyle change. And carbs aren’t the enemy.

Keto isn’t just about calories in/out.

There are studies showing that the ketogenic diet has a huge positive impact on insulin levels which can prevent the body from accessing body fat for fuel.

On keto you’re adapted to use fat as a primary fuel source so burning body fat is a seamless transition when you’ve burned your calories in, this helps prevent slowing metabolism that can occur with normal calories in/out diets.

Also some studies saying the ketogenic diet can allow up to 250 more calories a day to break even, than a traditional diet

I enjoyed the frick out of the food you are able to eat on this diet.

However, if you are going to play any sports, or do any high intensity physical activity on a regular basis, I wouldn't recommend it.

The lack of carbs makes you feel fricking exhausted while trying to do any high intensity activity.

I’ve been on keto since last October. I’m now down to 6’ 185 lbs. My cholesterol, blood pressure, resting heart rate, stamina and insulin levels have all seen drastic improvements.

A trend on my Apple Watch from last October shows a steady decrease of resting heart rate from about 70 bpm to 47 bpm (current)
